With everything going on in the world lately, we have all been forced to assume this cyclical lifestyle that almost feels like a time warp. Wake up, work from home, eat, sleep, repeat. Unfortunately, it can be very difficult to stay motivated and positive during this unprecedented times, so I really want my first post to be dedicated to improving some perspectives on this global pandemic. I’ve come up with a list of 10 ways that you can stay optimistic throughout this tough time!

1. Stick to a routine

One of the reasons you may be in a slump is because your normal routine was suddenly disrupted. Most of us went from complete normalcy to having our world turn upside down in a 24 hour time frame. Sticking to a routine even while working from home will sustain some of that “normalcy” and keep you productive and happy.

2. Keep a journal

Another great way to stay positive is to actively keep a journal. Write down what you do throughout the day, how you feel, who you spend time with. Each day you find yourself complaining about being cooped up, write a list of things you are grateful for. Acknowledging what you have instead of complaining about what you don’t is a great way to change perspective.

3. Send a thoughtful note to a friend

COVID-19 has been tough on us all. It has single-handedly affected every person in our country, and some have been hit harder than others. Sending a thoughtful note to a friend or two is a great way to pass the time and spread some positivity.

4. Make a list of places you want to go after quarantine

Making post-quarantine plans at all your favorite places is a great way to have something to look forward to. I’ve made a few separate lists including new restaurants in the city I want to try, friends I want to see, and things I want to do.

5. Give yourself a break

We don’t have to come out of this quarantine any skinnier, prettier, healthier, or smarter. As Americans, we are constantly on the go and putting way too much on our plates. Use this time to rest and give yourself a well deserved pause. Once this is all over, you’ll be thankful you did.

6. Be a light to others

Like I mentioned before, so many people are affected by this pandemic in different ways. People are losing their jobs and filing for unemployment. Some people are terrified to go to the grocery store because they’re high risk of getting the virus. Use your voice to be a light to people in these dark times. Spread positivity and awareness whenever you can and encourage those around you to do the same.

7. Ask what you can do for others

If you’re lower risk, check up on your neighbors, or any elderly friends and family you have. They are most likely terrified to leave their homes, and picking up some groceries or running an errand for them will make a huge difference in their life during this time. It’s a great way to spread some love.

8. Support local businesses

Many local businesses are struggling right now, and many have had to close their doors. By choosing to continue to shop local you are helping business owners restore their faith. Most businesses are taking online orders or doing curbside pickup, or allowing customer’s to buy gift certificate’s for later use. Supporting small businesses support your local economy so that when all this is over there will be less of a “rebuild” period.

9. Get some fresh air

It’s April now, which means that in most areas of the country, Spring has sprung and the weather is warming up. Take a walk outside; get some steps in and some fresh air. Spending time in nature is so good for our mental well-being!

10. Focus on the good news

It feels like every time you turn on the news or search the web, the overarching headline is something negative about COVID-19. Despite all that, believe it or not, there is some good news circulating out there about the environment, people coming together, and the curve flattening. Check it out!

11. Encourage your friends & family to stay optimistic too!

Share this list with friends and family who are struggling to find positives in this situation. We are stronger together! Spread light and positivity and it will radiate.

We can all agree that this situation is not ideal. Being stuck inside our houses and adhering to new changes and guidelines every day is stressful and seemingly hopeless. However, there are ways to stay optimistic and spread positivity throughout this quarantine. Give it a try!
