11 Things I Learnt from my 11-Month Old Son

As at the time of writing this article, my son would be turning a year soon.

I’m so grateful to God for the privilege of having him in our lives.

I have learnt a lot from him and I would like to share 11 out of those things I have learnt from him:

  1. When you are well-fed, you are pumped up: Food is an important part of life and you can’t deny the fact that when you eat a good meal, you feel good thereafter. When my son eats, I can see how good he feels instantly.
  2. Don’t be afraid to try out new things: My son is not afraid to explore new things. There are two things that can happen, it’s either he likes it or he doesn’t. Or it’s either they suit his taste or not.
  3. Happiness is contagious: When my son is happy, I feel happy. It reminds me that happiness is contagious.
  4. Know what you want and go for it: My son is a go-getter! He knows what he wants and he goes for it.
  5. Happiness is free: He also teaches me that it costs nothing to be happy; you just need to decide to be happy regardless of what’s going on around you.
  6. Don’t give up: As a go-getter, my son is resilient. He reminds me to pursue what I want and go after it with resilience.
  7. Our journeys are different: With my son, I’m also daily reminded that no two babies are the same. They have different journeys and shouldn’t be compared with each other.
  8. We all need attention: No matter how you want to look at it, we all need attention from the special people in our lives. My son loves it when we give him attention and he reminds me that it is something I need as well
  9. When you fall, stand up again: As someone who just started learning to walk, I see how he stands up when he falls and he tries again.
  10. Fear inhibits growth: He also teaches me that whenever he is scared, he gets afraid go move or take a desired step. And so, this reminds me to let go of my fears.
  11. Practice makes perfect: Each time he practices, he gets better! I noticed that when he learns a new gesture and he practices it often, he gets better at recognising and doing.
