Where do you go when you need to get away from it all? A place where your cell phone or laptop are uninvited, because let’s face it, it is just time to take a break. When a little rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation for yourself is needed for your physical and emotional well-being, these three getaways are sure to renew your heart and soul, all while being able to indulge in the simple pleasures of ordering room service with a view.
1- Harbour Island, Bahamas
The charming elegance of this 3 1/2 mile long, and 1 1/2 wide island surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters is the perfect place to soothe your bones and your mind. Find yourself mesmerized by the waves kissing a pink sand shore, and spirited by the wind blowing through your hair in your open air golf cart transportation. The island has everything to make your personal wellness vacation feel like heaven and beyond. Dance the night away on a sand floor at Gusty’s, enjoy yoga 🧘♂️ at the newly renovated, first-class Coral Sands, and enjoy the best chili dog of your life at SipSip. Paddle board the bay, snorkel among the hundreds of angel fish, and enjoy a sunset cocktail. With several 4-5 star restaurants on the island, your taste buds will have you begging to stay forever.
Where to Stay: Coral Sands
Must Do: Sunrise coffee overlooking the beach, or feel your toes in the sand on the pink hued beach during a morning stroll.
Must Indulge: I have three favorites I must share: Cocktails and dinner at The Landing, Snorkel Trip and under-the-sea swim with Ocean Fox Diving, and chocolate cupcakes from Arthur’s Bakery.
How To Get There: Fly to North Eluethera, airport code is ELH. From there, jump into a taxi to the dock, where you will then embark on a water taxi to Harbour Island. There is also a ferry from Nassau, which takes approximately 2 hours.
2- Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico
This booming city located on the western side of the Yucatán Peninsula is spiritual, meets ancient, meets modern influence. It is a place to disappear off the grid. A place to swim in a sacred Mayan cenote (underwater cave), enjoy spa treatments, or simply relax and reconnect. Boasting a sophisticated elegance and an international food scene, the mystery of the city embraces curiosity and leaves fingerprints on your soul. Enjoy a champagne Sunday brunch at Rosas & Xocolate, immerse yourself in a yoga retreat at Hacienda Dzibikak, and enjoy a selection of French cheeses at Café Creme. Embrace the Yucatán sun kissing your skin in the quaint fishing village of Sisal, and allow this treasure-filled heaven to remind you that each day of life is truly a gift.
Where To Stay: In the City: Rosas & Xocolate. Away from it all: Chablé Resort
Must Do: Take a moment to sit in a lovers chair, look into each others eyes, and kiss like you’ve never been kissed before.
Must Indulge: Let’s stick with my three favorites: Chocolate Soufflé at Rosas & Xocolate, Cenoté Tour with YucatanCenote.com, Octopus Ceviche and walking the pier in the small fishing village of Sisal.
How To Get There: Fly to Mérida, airport code is MID. Take a taxi from the airport to your accommodations.
3- Grenada
This island in the Southern end of the Caribbean has everything- hiking, waterfalls, the ocean, and yoga on the beach. If you are looking for an escape for mind, body, and spirit, to soak up nature and nurture consider a week at wellness resort, La Luna. Book a tour guide for hiking and waterfall visits. This trip is more of a resort stay with excursions out, where the others mentioned allow for daily adventuring on your own. Tucked away, La Luna is the place for the health-minded traveler. An onsite beachfront yoga pavilion and spa will cure any blues, and catch of the day seafood entrees allow you to easily make healthy dining decisions.
Where to stay: La Luna
How to get there: Fly to Grenada, airport code GND, Direct flights from Miami (MIA), and San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU). A 25 minute taxi ride from the airport to La Luna.
Must do: Morning yoga on the beach pavilion.
Must Indulge: My three favorite things: Breakfast on you private verandah overlooking the ocean, book a tour guide to hike the Mt. Qua Qua Trail & 7 Sisters Waterfall, and kayaking in the bay.
