Have you realized how comfortable you’ve become in your day-to-day life? The monotony has become another appendage that helps you function each day. A slight change in your routine may make you scramble for a daily lifeline. At some point, you may decide that you are ready to get away from the norm. Here are three things you can do break away from your routine and spark some personal growth.
Take a camping road trip
Nothing says freedom like hitting the open road on a mini-camping road trip. Break away from your immediate possessions and your routine and you’re left with the opportunity to adapt to a new world. Allow yourself to get a little uncomfortable and as a result, you will experience self-growth.
You can opt to go glamping – this is when people explore the great outdoors with a little bit of luxury. You can also camp the good old fashioned way with a tent and sleeping bag. Make sure that whichever option you select, you are outside in a remote location and are presented with some challenges that are outside of your normal routine.
Take an improv class
You don’t have to aspire to be a stand-up comic to take an improvisation class. In fact, if you want the ultimate challenge of staying on your toes, improv might be right up your alley. The benefits of taking an improv class are endless. You can improve your public speaking skills, gain confidence from performing (and failing) in front of strangers, rely more on instinct while training your brain to think fast and begin relating to people in real time. In this digital age of social media, we have become lackadaisical when it comes to communicating with each other. We’re starting to lose the ability to interact at the moment because we’re able to read something and reply at a later, more convenient time. Take an improv class and it will bring the ability to converse in real time back to you.
Host home gatherings
When was the last time you had a group of friends over at your house for a small get together? It’s probably been a long time. When you are busy at work, have a messy house, and do not want to put in the effort to host, you may fail to reach your full potential with friendships. Let go of those limitations and commit to bringing together your friends and family on a regular basis. Learn how to dominate your poker game and have people over to play it with you, plan a movie night, or invite your friends to a themed potluck dinner. You don’t have to do all the planning yourself. Politely ask guests to pitch in and bring some of the food and drinks. People love to help out if it means a chance to hang together and not have to host.
Make it a goal to get out of your comfort zone and welcome some powerful personal growth this year. You’ll be rewarded with more confidence and a better sense of self.
