Do you have a master plan for being successful with your online business? What about a master plan for being successful in your home life?

You’re an entrepreneur, a forward thinker, and you enjoy what you do. Did you realize being successful doesn’t have to be an either/or decision in your life? While we all want to be successful at our job and our home life, you can sometimes find yourself depleting your energy at work, and by the time you get home, you can sometimes find yourself without those resources.

We can learn a lot about these secrets from Fraser McKeen, Partner and National Development of True Calling, a company whose vision helps you find your ‘happy’. Fraser is one of these people and he shares how you can be successful at work, all the while reaping the benefits of balancing your home life around this.

If you’re finding yourself having trouble with the perfect balance, you can learn some things about you in this article in which you possibly didn’t realize. Here are three tips you can use for being successful at work and home from now on.

#1 — Don’t Be Scared of Failure

All of the truly successful entrepreneurs you come across online are people who have had failures in their endeavors. I know it’s a romantic idea to dream how you will do everything perfectly in your business, but if you aren’t prepared for failure you will soon start to see everything unfold on you.

Just like you, Fraser has had many challenges and pivots in his business which has developed his overall aspect as an entrepreneur. He explained to me one aspect which I couldn’t stop thinking about — Stay true to your mission and your vision. Once you realize failure is part of the growing process you can use this aspect of business building to your advantage. Realizing your mission and vision is the anchor you need to stay on track when failure does come knocking. You already know success doesn’t come easily wrapped up in a pretty bow for your business, you have to go out and get it.

Failure is going to happen. If you’ve lived any amount of time in the business world, you already know this. Once you understand this you can prepare yourself for the learning experience which comes with failure. Don’t destroy your business by allowing failure to be the final nail in the coffin of your endeavor. When the hammer strikes, and you have prepared for it, you can learn from the failure, what you did wrong, and what you need to do in order to fix it.

#2 — Wherever You Are, “BE” There

Mr. McKeen explains how important it is to be. To “be” means not only to have existence in a particular place in time, but to be active in that existence. Have you ever found yourself daydreaming about work when you were supposed to be having family time with the kids or spouse?

You weren’t actively existing in their environment. Your kids can tell and so can anyone else who spends most of their time with you. You have to learn when work time is and when family/home time is. Not only is this healthy to keep a great relationship with your family, but this is also healthy for your mind. It allows you to recharge and reset. Continuing to mull over a problem which wasn’t solved before you left for the weekend is not going to do you any favors when you’re home.

On the other side of that coin, if you’re at work, BE at work. Throw all of your energy into your projects and keep your mind on the vision and expectations of the project or whatever it is you’re currently working on. Most importantly, do something you’re passionate about. Something with which you can exhume all of your energy doing which you enjoy.

Create a calendar or a time card you can keep up with. Stick to that schedule. If you decide your work day is over at 6pm, then walk away at 6pm. There has to be barriers between your work life and your home life or both will suffer.

#3 — Patience Works Through Consistency

Whatever you’re doing will not happen overnight. It would be nice if this were so, but a lot of hard work is needed in order to create success. This isn’t limited to just work either. Perhaps you are one of those people who work around the clock and you are trying to repair the relationships at home? If this is true, it’s going to take patience and consistency doing what you know is the right thing to do on behalf of your family.

Separating work from home life is also crucial. Set that schedule and stick with it. Make sure your kids understand when you are at work, you are unavailable. If you’re starting work at 6am every morning, stick with it, because when 6pm comes around you shouldn’t be working anymore. Your family, friends, and even YOU are waiting on some alone time.

In Conclusion

It’s one thing to preach a work/life balance and another thing to actually do it. It takes hard work, a lot of love on both sides of the fence, and a devotion to a schedule like your life depended on it…because it does. Your clients, coworkers AND family are counting on you.
