Being the big guy in the office has its perks, no doubt about that. However, it comes with a lot of responsibilities, meaning you have less room for slacking off. When you have just one of those days, there’s very little you can do except stick it out as best as you can.
A manager or boss can’t simply ask for an early leave and take off without seriously upsetting the workflow. Sure, they might seem free to do what they like, but they are actually more bound than a regular employee.

1. Take Some Personal Time
If you’re the boss, especially if this is a recent happening, you may feel responsible for everyone’s problems. It is true that a boss should be accessible to his employees, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t need time for himself.
It is best if you could prepare for a little free time in advance. Book little fake ‘meetings’ every few days or week so you could relax a little. Since a boss rarely takes breaks, this practice wouldn’t be unethical. In fact, it would probably help one to perform better as they would be less stressed.
Alternatively, a boss could strike a deal with his employees by having a sort of signal between them. For example, whenever he would put on a certain cap, employees would know that he is not to be disturbed at the moment. When the day gets too tough, a boss can simply don this cap and get a few moments to figure out the next step.
2. Watch Funny Videos
It is a curious but proven fact that watching a couple of funny videos could actually increase productivity at work. It almost goes without saying that such videos would also take a boss’s mind off the tensions of the day.
Most funny videos, or videos of cute animals, are available for free on YouTube. All you have to do is sit back and give 10-15 minutes to watching them. Most of these videos won’t be more than five minutes long. However, a boss should not be watching videos for too long, for obvious reasons.
Even if a video doesn’t relax you, it is sure to distract you from the day. This could easily be a lifesaver when you’re bursting with anger and may explode at any minute. Venting out your frustrations on an employee is likely to diminish your reputation. Privately watching videos is a harmless and fun engagement that would keep you from making a fool of yourself.
3. Stay Quiet
If your employees are irritating you to no end, simply stay mute. Sometimes people are so stubborn that arguing with them would only aggravate yourself. Plus, if they have made a mistake, it is better to find ways of solving the problem instead of scolding the perpetrator.
If you are simply under a lot of pressure, deadlines, and an overflowing ‘in’ tray, staying quiet is again beneficial. Instead of chatting or complaining about your work, you should actually be doing it. So it is recommended that you talk in as few words as possible. Then keep your head down and keep on working. Hopefully, this would get the job done faster.
