Prevent Coronavirus

The people infected with the new COVID-19 have surpassed 900,000 globally; among these infections, the World Health Organization (W.H.O) is confirming more than 48,000 deaths thus far.

The virus has affected most countries of the globe. The effects are either directly on health or indirectly through the economy. An increase in infections has led to the W.H.O announcing the novel Coronavirus outbreak, a global pandemic. Wuhan Province in China is the source of the first case of the virus. It has spread rapidly, making Europe the hotspot of the disease.

The figures are scary, Right? The W.H.O has urged the global population to stay calm. They must follow guidelines from governments and health caregivers.

In this article, we are going to discuss five effective measures to prevent Corona Virus.

What Ways Can You Use To Protect Yourself From The Virus?

1. Wash your hands with Soap

It is a proven fact that we should wash our hands using running water and soap. We can also apply alcohol-based sanitizers, where water is not accessible. They are useful in killing germs and viruses on our hands. Hands contact with many surfaces also touched by other people. Mobile phones, remotes, car keys are also among the gadgets regularly used. People get to use these objects and devices a lot. The virus can stay on these surfaces for 2-3 hours.

If you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth without washing your hands, you become at risk of viral infections such as COVID-19.

It is advisable to wash your hands with soap and running water (where possible). You can also use alcohol-based sanitizer because this kills germs and prevents infections.

2. Practice Social Distancing

Health professionals have warned that the virus spreads like flu or the common cold. Transmissions occur through liquid droplets produced when coughing or sneezing. Droplets produced when coughing or sneezing can live in the air for several hours. So, if you don’t keep distance, you could breathe the virus if the person sneezing close to you has the virus.

It is, thus, advisable for people to avoid close contact with each other. Maintain a distance of 2metre (6ft) from yourself and anyone who is sneezing or coughing.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, public gatherings and social events have been discouraged. Some governments have banned sporting events and flights from high-risk nations. Imposing of total lockdowns is also happening. Movement is not allowed in regions with a high number of confirmed cases. A little inconveniencing, but it is to prevent the coronavirus from spreading.

You should also avoid hugging, kissing, and shaking of hands. If you are infected, use a mask or a disposable tissue when coughing.

You should also minimize or avoid visits to malls, supermarkets, clubs, grocery stores, and other social places.

3. Avoid Travelling/Stay at home

According to W.H.O, backed by other medical bodies, nonessential traveling should stop. All is to prevent exposure to the virus or to prevent it from spreading to other people/nations.

If you have traveled, you should self-quarantine for 14 days. On the other hand, if you have a fever, cough, difficulty in breathing, contact a health professional. A doctor will offer further examination and diagnosis. By doing this, you are going to prevent coronavirus from spreading further.

4. Work from Home

Across the U.S., Europe, and other regions, the coronavirus has adversely affected the way people do business. Companies such as General Motors, Ford, Google, and Twitter have told their workers to work remotely from home.

It is an easy thing to do for those in tech companies as they can comfortably work remotely. However, some employees undertake technical jobs, and thus they must appear in person to their respective workplaces. It is, however, hard to enforce a ‘work from home’ directive to prevent the virus from spreading.

5. Disinfect Frequently Touched Surfaces and Gadgets

Mobile phones, remotes, car keys, tables, tablet computers, keyboards, and doorknobs are among the most touched things and thus require regular cleaning and sanitizing. It is, therefore, advisable to disinfect those using alcohol-based disinfectants.

Scientists have conducted research and said that the virus could live on the phone for two to three days. Use a soft cloth and sanitizers to wipe and clean surfaces.  We should also clean gadgets to prevent coronavirus from spreading.

In conclusion, W.H.O. promotes good hand hygiene as an effective and easy way to prevent the spread of germs and infections. It is therefore advisable for you to follow the above measures as they could go a long way in avoiding the virus from catching up with you or your loved ones.

Avoiding social gatherings and staying at home will go a long way to help suppress and prevent the spread of the COVID-19. However hard business environment will get; it does equate to the effects one would suffer if infected with the virus. And as the saying goes, ‘prevention is better than cure.’

Stay safe.
