Each person, regardless of their circumstances, was born with the right to live an amazing life. The problem is that many people are usually oblivious to the fact or they forget along their life’s journey. So, they live life as it presents itself, regardless of how unhappy it really makes them. No matter what stage of life you are, as long as you are alive, you can turn your life around.

If you want to live the life you love and love the life you live, consider the following strategies:

1. ASK YOURSELF THE TOUGH QUESTIONS

You need to realize that you don’t just stumble onto happiness. You have to ask yourself the tough questions like how did you get to the place you are? What could you have done differently? What exactly is the perfect picture of the life you would rather be living? You have to be honest with yourself when asking and answering these questions. In order to solve a problem, you have to first identify the cause so you can deal with it appropriately.

2. GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE

In answering the above questions and even others you came up with yourself, you may have uncovered truths that are difficult to deal with, mistakes you wish you had not made and choices you wish had been alternatives forgone. But the truth is now is not the time to wallow in self-pity and regret. Those things have happened and it is time to move on from them, no matter how difficult or impossible that might seem. While you may be unable to change those circumstances, you can change your present situation and that is the goal at hand. You need to forgive yourself, if required and give yourself that radical chance to make the radical change you want.

You might have been put down constantly in your life whether by people or by life itself but you do not have to remain down. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get on that high horse. You read that right. People may tell you, “Get off your high horse” but chances are, they are sitting right on theirs and looking down on you through the bridge of their noses. You have a right to ride a happy horse through life and you are the only one who can decide how high or how low it gets.

3. SET OUT A STRATEGY

Everything sounds great in principle. But many dreams and ideas have failed not for lack of motivation but for lack of a well thought out plan. This is why I’m skipping “get motivated” and going straight to “set out a strategy”. Take a pen and a journal or set up a note on your choice gadget, whatever your preference, just make sure you set out in numbered steps the strategies you need to live that life you love. Call it a roadmap if you will.

From the most basic step to the most fundamental, nothing must be left out. What is the first thing you need? To get an education? Learn a skill? Move to someplace new? Break out of a toxic relationship? When you have that figured out, write down the next step and then the next. Don’t stop half-way. Keep going.

4. GET TO WORK

At this stage you have put pen to paper (at least figuratively), you have a strategy. One thing you should lack now is an excuse. Start with the item at the top of your list. Work at it constantly, consistently, and diligently. Like anything that has a goal, commitment is crucial. You must be committed to your strategy. You must be committed to the goal. You must be committed to YOURSELF.

5. DON’T STOP

Living the life you love cannot be one of the items on that list you made at No. 3. This is because it is not a goal that can be defined by set standards. It is a journey without a destination because no one should ever stop living the life they love to settle for anything else.

This is not to assure you that from here on out your life will be perfect but it will be a lot better than it was because now, you are living deliberately, unapologetic about your choices (as long as you keep making the right ones). You are choosing to be whatever it is you want to be. If along the line you fail, refer back to the strategies and begin again.

Remember, it is always up to you to choose between mediocrity and pure bliss. And whenever you are faced with these choices, I hope you choose wisely.
