Our health is one of the most important and crucial components of our lives that should never be sidelined and neglected. Maintaining healthy habits and lifestyle has many benefits. It makes us more energetic, confident, it makes us feel great about ourselves and above all decreases the risk of developing health-related problems. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not always the most convenient way of living our lives, especially if your days are packed with commitments and chores that leave you with nothing less than a busy schedule.

It is very easy to become responsive to our tight and demanding calendars and fall into the trap of relying on buying fast foods, neglecting exercise and depriving ourselves of sleep. All of which can eventually lead to burn out, decrease our performance, trouble with concentration and motivation as well as any health-related issues.

Wanting to address this issue and prevent negligence of your health, I provided you with five easy tips for keeping your health on track while working around your busy schedule.

Create a morning exercise routine.

Exercising and keeping our bodies active is one of the most important ways of staying healthy. If you work any job that limits your movement for an extended period of time throughout a day, you should make moving around and exercising your top priority. Long hours stuck behind a desk, sat in the same old chair, can leave you with an uncomfortable back pain and stiffened up muscles. However, such job overtime can lead to more serious chronic illnesses and conditions such as muscular-skeletal disorders, heart disease, and obesity.

The way we can prevent the effects of such jobs is through engaging in exercise activities at least 3-5 times a week. An easy solution is to plan out a 30-minute morning exercise routine you can do right when you wake up. Starting your day this way, will not only decrease your risk of chronic illnesses and conditions but will also get your blood pumping around your body, in turn, kick-starting your day and leaving you more awake and ready to take on the day.

Make healthy food choices.

Another way of keeping healthy is to plan out your meals and organize your lunch. Bringing your own lunch to your office will help you make healthy food choices in advance and be prepared for the times when it could have been easy and convenient to visit your local fast food place again. Prepare your lunch the night before to save time in the morning. Easy and healthy!

Rest.

When managing a busy life, it sometimes feels like 24 hours in a day is just not enough. To be honest, most days, it isn’t! But that doesn’t mean you should sacrifice your sleep. It is important to get enough rest for the next day, after all what good are you when you are tired and can’t concentrate even on your easiest tasks. Neglecting your rest time can lead to decrease in productivity, awareness, weakened immune system resulting in increased risk of developing acute and chronic illnesses.

In general, it is estimated that adults require between six to eight hours of sleep a night to recover their energy from the previous day. Although the amount of sleep needed by each person differs based on internal and external factors such as daily activity, diet, and lifestyle, it is extremely important to get a full night rest. Sleeping allows your body to recover its energy, rebuild and grow stronger.

In order to control your sleep and restrict jobs and commitments from taking over your rest time, you should work out a bedtime you can work with and stick to it. Figure out how many hours you need in order to have a good night sleep and calculate how you can incorporate it into your day. Setting yourself a bedtime will help you manage your workload and protect your much-needed recovery time.

Hydrate!

Hydrate! This cannot be stressed enough. Keeping fully hydrated is key. Your body made primarily out of water, needs you to keep the water flowing through it. Drinking water throughout the day can contribute to decreasing your stress levels, cleansing your body of toxins and helping you get the most out of your daily workouts. To keep hydrated you should keep a water bottle always by your side. You can even use a marker to mark on times and the amount you should drink each hour. It might sound like a chore, but it will change your life!

Skip the 10 pm snack.

Late night snacking might seem like not much of a big deal, but it can have a negative impact on your health. Eating late can leave you bloated and affect your night sleep. It is also reported to be connected to causing an increase in body weight and leading to Type 2 diabetes.

To overcome late snacking, you should set yourself a cutoff point for eating any type of meals and snacks. You can also substitute food for water, which will diminish your appetite but will not cost you any calories that you will regret in the morning or months to come.
