Dr. Eric First and his colleagues were inspired to launch their brand R3SET after the World Health Organization recognized stress as the health epidemic of the 21st century. The leaders at R3SET identified the need for more effective ways to tackle stress and developed a line of supplements tailored to support the nervous system, the endocrine system, and the immune system — the three bodily systems that stress attacks. Now, their natural stress solutions line the shelves of stores like CVS and Target, providing consumers with a balanced formula to respond to stress. While supplements offer an array of benefits to consumers, there are many other steps individuals can take to combat stress. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. First about ways members of the Thrive Global community can manage their stress through the current pandemic.

  1. Recognize Your Stress: “One of the most important parts of managing stress is identifying it,” revealed Dr. First. He explained that there are two variations of stress we regularly encounter: acute stress and chronic stress. You can harness acute stress for good. It fires up the brain and the body, empowering mental and physical performance. On the contrary, chronic stress induces a myriad of health consequences, ranging from insomnia to heart disease. Realizing which breed of stress you’re experiencing can help you tackle it.
  2. Cover the Basics: Once you recognize your stress, Dr. First suggests taking care of the necessities. Exercise, eat healthily, and drink plenty of water. Most importantly, to maintain immune system function, get enough sleep
  3. Prioritize “Me-Time”: Dr. First advises that you take some time for yourself. Whether that means getting lost in a favorite book or trying that new face mask you just bought, this self-care “helps shift your mindset back to the present, away from the stress, and gives you a sense of accomplishment for the day. Plus, it shifts your brain away from the current stressor, allowing it to reduce the stress response.”
  4. Stay Connected (Virtually): Social isolation doesn’t mean complete isolation. Even if you’re home alone, you shouldn’t feel lonely — to reinforce mental well-being, Dr. First recommends that you try to stay connected virtually. “Now is a great time, especially with modern technology, to reach out to those you ‘have been meaning to connect with’ or get active in a Facebook Group that you have always wanted to but just ‘just didn’t have the time,’” shares Dr. First. Though simple, staying connected can have a tremendous impact on mental and physical health.
  5. Educate Yourself: In addition to supplements, R3SET offers digital health education programs to help individuals learn how to manage stress. “There is so much information out there on various ways that people can attempt to manage stress that it can be overwhelming,” cautions Dr. First, “Additionally, much of what you may find on the internet may not be backed by actual clinical evidence, and, thus, it is critical to get credible information.” The medical doctors, yoga experts, and cognitive and behavioral psychologists at R3SET teamed up to build a 14-day program to provide science-backed tips and techniques to help cope with stress. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the leaders at R3SET have opened the program to the public for free. Readers can go to www.R3SET.com to sign up.
