Embrace the cold
It might be tempting to stay indoors during the winter season, however this is not necessarily the best course of action. It is important to get as much fresh air and exercise as possible, even when venturing outside might seem unappealing. One thing you could do is wrap up and go for a winter walk somewhere nearby, maybe through a wintry forest or along a frozen lake. Of course, you should always listen to weather warning and be necessarily cautious.
Eat well
Many of us crave carbohydrates and comforting food in the winter months, and fortunately there are many healthy ways to deal with this. You could use seasonal vegetables such as butternut squash to make a delicious soup, and a sweet potato pie is a sure to satisfy your need for carbohydrates. And of course, there is nothing wrong with indulging in the occasional treat, particularly in the season of mince pies and mulled wine.
Protect yourself against the flu
Incidences of cold and flu massively spike over the winter period, both of which can leave us feeling miserable. This is why it is important to keep yourself healthy by maintaining good personal hygiene, and practising a healthy lifestyle. The flu vaccination is strongly recommended to vulnerable groups such as elderly people or pregnant women, but anyone can get it. It provides your body with the necessary antibodies to fight any invading pathogens.
Explore a new hobby
Just because you might spend more time indoors, that doesn’t mean you have to watch TV all day. There are plenty of interesting books out there, and board-games are a good social activity. Alternatively, you could try a completely new hobby such as cross-stitch, or you could take the time to practice some yoga or meditation. That having been said there are many Christmassy films which are well worth a watch.
Connect with friends and family
It is important not to isolate yourself during the winter months, especially if you live alone. There are so many fun activities to do in this season, so it is worth exploring what is happening in your local area. Why not invite a friend for a hot chocolate, or go ice-skating with your family? Meeting with other people will boost your mood, and theirs too!
