It’s summertime!

Sunshine and long, warm days makes it so much more fun to wake up in the morning and slay the day!

While it can be easy to feel better when we can step under the suns rays instead of trying to bundle up in the dark and dreary cold…there are still going to be days when your vibe is just … “off”.

This is where your “mental” yoga practice and positive self-talk should kick in and I’ve got 5 sure-fire tips to boost your vibe when the day is less than amazing.

1. Start the day over, mentally

Clean slates feel awesome – New Year’s Resolutions, the first day of school, a new job, or even a nice crisp, clean sheet of blank white paper.

You have permission to start your day over anytime you choose.

Make the decision, and let everything before that moment go as if it never happened, and start fresh.

2. Take a “ritual” break

You can do this for a few minutes as a transition when you commit to starting the day over (or anytime you desire!).

The ritual should be something you associate with decompressing (so as to soothe) like having a nice cup of tea or something you associate with revving up and boosting your vibe early in the day.

I always turn to coffee and tea for my rituals because they force me to look away from the computer screen, get up and make that cup.

I have my favorite mug that I use and just the right amount of the creamer I like.

That first sip I take with closed eyes gives me some separation from the day so I can go back into it with a clear head.

3. Stretch

Take a forward fold whether standing or seated at your desk (just stick your head between your legs:) to get the blood moving and a to literally take a “mini-break” from the world.

Yoga stretches are the ultimate vibe-boosters because of the way they get the breath, body and blood moving, flowing and grooving.

4. Defocus your eyes

Yup, allow yourself to soften the focus you have with your eyes (keep them open) and just focus on your breath – allow your eyes to gently wander without trying to focus on anything specific.

Notice the quality of your breath and the way it comes in and out.

When we have shitty days, our backs can literally “go up” because we’re so hyper focused on everything going on around us.

It can be great to actually “de-focus” and let everything soften for a moment.

5. Stay in the day/hour/minute!

When we start projecting towards the future, we waste serious energy that can be both mentally and physically draining as overwhelm creeps (or sprints) in.

If your day is crappy because you struggle with a coworker or if a job you are doing is not what you want to be doing, the idea that there is no end in sight can make you miserable.

You want to protect your energy so you can go after things you want – if you stay in the day, you can conserve that energy and put it towards the action steps you need to take to manifest the life you desire.
