Personal branding has become essential in today’s world where we all need to stand out in order to be considered for that next gig or opportunity. The problem is that personal branding doesn’t always come easily for everyone, particularly women who often feel that talking about their accomplishments is akin to bragging. You see, women have been taught to be warm and nurturing, and putting themselves out there in this way can go against that notion and cause them to be judged in a harsh way. Still, despite that, both women and men need to develop their personal brands in order to thrive in business.
Here are 7 ways that you can do so while putting some sizzle into it at the same time:
- Get creative. Think up new ways to get the message about yourself out in a way that is unique and will attract attention. What current trends and highlights can you tie your content to? What’s an innovative way to position yourself? Who can help you?
- Specialize. If you narrow down the areas that you are most knowledgeable in, you can focus on portraying yourself as an expert in those areas and crank out valuable content specific to them on a regular basis. What do you have to offer that will resonate with others? Lean into your experience and talent here.
- Be visible. People will never hear about you and all that you have to offer is you are hiding out in your office. Grow your presence in person, by video, and online. Put yourself out there in a big sort of way- you’ll be surprised by what happens next.
- Insert yourself. Give some thought to where and how you want to get yourself in the mix. There are so many online groups that you can join, conversations that you can add to, and people that you can get to know. The more you insert yourself, the more opportunities you’ll get.
- Enlighten others. Share useful ideas and opinions that pull people in. Be positive and help others. You can do this on social media, on the job, and in all of your business and personal interactions.
- Be consistent. Communicate and post content on your platforms weekly to make sure that you remain top of mind, and so that your presence and network will grow. It takes awhile, but over time, you’ll be surprised at the amount of growth you gain.
- Give back. The more you give others your time, talent, and energy, the more it will come back to you. Ensure that you are generous with your gifts. In return, others will be generous with you as well. The world is a circle.
