SRINAGAR: Counting words while writing in exams takes bulk of time which made a nine year old boy from Gurez area of Bandipora district to invent a ‘Counting pen’
Muzaffar Ahmad Khan who is a student of class 3rd has recently participated in an innovators exhibition held at Presidential House in New Delhi where he is was applauded by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind for his invention.
While talking to Kashmir Patriot, Muzaffar who belongs to poor family from Gurez said that the idea of inventing a counting pen struck his mind when he got minimum marks in exams due to short of words. He said that they very day he start thinking of inventing something which will save time to count words automatically.
Muzaffar said he worked on the idea for few days. He said latter with the help of some people he got in touch with the National innovation Foundation, an autonomous body under department of science and technology based on his idea developed such a pen.
“It is a pen with a casing attached at its rear end. A casing for electronics is made and printed on a 3D printer. Once someone writes, it shows the word count that can be displayed on a small LCD monitor. It can also be displayed on one’s mobile phone through a message”, he said.
Muzaffar said he takes part in the festival of Innovation and Entrepreneurship organized by the Rashtrapati Bhavan in association with the Department of Science and Technology and the National innovation Council. The prototype of the pen was displayed in the exhibition where President Kovind appreciates and rewards him.
Muzaffar told that the only thing he wants to excel in life is a better schooling as the school he study in lacks teachers and other basic faculties. Muzaffar wants to become a scientist. His father Ghulam Mohmmad Khan a shopkeeper has three more children to look after.
His father told that he hardly manages to feed his family. He wishes that Muzaffar receives better education. He said that government must provide support to the young innovators as they could be asset to the state. He said Muzaffar needs educational support to groom his innovative mind.
Pertinently the exhibition that has displays by young innovators from across the country was inaugurated by the President of India. The exhibit showcases how a simple idea can transform lives.
The festival was concluded on March 23 a remained open from 20 march for visitors. The innovators were rewarded for their innovations in the exhibition besides provided a platform for budding linkage with potential stakeholders whose support can improve their prospects in coming years to develop their idea into implementation project for the larger social good.
