An aha moment

Dear Fear,

As long as I can remember you have been around, lurking in the shadows waiting to jump out at the most inopportune times. Do you remember the time when I was six and I got stage fright so badly that I refused to dance in my recital? You don’t remember?! Well I do and so does my mother. She still talks about it.

I don’t understand why you always try to stand between us and our deepest desires. It seems kind of silly to impose your views, holding us back from our true happiness. I know you and happiness are polar opposites with a long history but get over it.

I’m just curious, what exactly do you gain from all this?

Wait, you think that you are protecting us?! O.M.G.

Well let me speak for all of us all by saying that we have a little advice for YOU. You are NOT protecting us by holding us back from…

  • our dream job
  • the relationships we desire
  • traveling to new places
  • meeting new people
  • trying new things
  • having a heartfelt conversation
  • saying goodbye
  • standing up to that bully
  • speaking out
  • following our hearts
  • being different
  • getting that operation we really need
  • chasing our dreams
  • saying no or saying yes
  • change
  • fill in the blank

The jig is up, Fear. We have had enough and today we are standing up and bidding you farewell. You are not stronger than us. You are just some silly feeling that we have been conditioned to obey. Our heart knows the truth and it’s always right.

So, it’s been real, Fear, but now it’s time to be true to ourselves. I mean haven’t we all suffered enough?

From the bottom of our all-knowing hearts we want to say, “See ya. Never want to be ya. Ever again!”

Before I sign off, a few of my friends also wanted to say goodbye.
