TIME published a fascinating piece Thursday titled “The Sleep Cure: The Fountain of Youth May Be Closer Than You Ever Thought” that adds more evidence to the case for the importance of sleep.

“I used to suggest that sleep is the third pillar of good health, along with diet and exercise,” Matthew Walker, a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, told TIME. “But I don’t agree with that anymore. Sleep is the single most effective thing you can do to reset your brain and body for health.”

As writer Alice Park reports, sleep is linked to longevity, memory, and as more and more science shows, mental health. The piece is more proof of what we’ve known for a long time: If your goal is health and wellbeing, sleep needs to be a big part of the equation.
