While some people love their jobs, others don’t look forward to going to work each day. They have these incredible ideas of what they’d like to do in life, but they let the fear of losing that steady income hold them back from taking steps to achieve their goals in life.

One global poll shows that 85 percent of adults hate their jobs. So, why are they staying there? Some feel like they need the job to pay their bills, buy groceries, and survive. And, while it’s normal to feel that way, staying in a job you hate can take a toll on your mental health. No one should feel like they’re working long hours in a toxic work environment where they’re not respected or allowed to do things they love. So many things can hold people back, including the regular paychecks they receive and their age. People often think it’s too late to do what they love or follow their dreams because they’re older.

Is It Too Late to Make a Career Switch?

While it’s not hard to find someone staying at a job because they think they’re too old to make a career switch, it’s never too late to quit your job and move forward to bigger and better things. If you have passions, use them to inspire you to get further in life. When you think it’s impossible, try to think of all the people who’ve had success at a later time in life. For example, JK Rowling, the writer of the Harry Potter series, wrote stories for a living for years and didn’t have success until she was already in her 30s. The success didn’t happen overnight, but she continued to do what she loved, and look how it turned out for her. She isn’t the only one who has had success later in life.

Kfir Amos, a successful business owner, has gone through many careers throughout his lifetime. He was in the military, spent years traveling the world, worked as a travel agent, and founded four different businesses from scratch, including an e-commerce store that appeared to have instant success. And, despite his age, he continues to come up with innovative business ideas. “I’m always looking forward to the next big thing. I’m living proof that it’s never too late to do what you love, and there isn’t anything wrong with switching from one career to the next. You can even have multiple careers if you want,” shared Amos.

If you’re experiencing feelings of self-doubt and imposter syndrome, now may be a good time to reevaluate your situation and make your next big move. Don’t let the fear of making a change or getting older keep you from pursuing your dreams. Whether you want to start a business, become a freelancer, or work for a different company that allows you to utilize your talents while offering more than enough room to grow, use the success stories of others as your motivation to get to where you want to be in life.
