Failure is something that I would wish upon no other man.
Failing at something or failing yourself will often leave painful and humiliating feelings. And when you fail it also usually means that the return on our time, effort, and money at that moment is nothing.
It is a fact that we will all fail at something sooner or later. It may be with big important things in our life or with small things that may seem meaningless.
But failure at something in life is definitely guaranteed.
It is also a fact that mistakes and failures often carry important lessons. And these are the lessons, if learned, will help us and lead us to success.
Have you ever seen a child learn to ride a bike, or a toddler learn to walk? They stumble and fall numerous times before getting it right.
It takes failure after failure to create success.
Even though that is true, there is nothing I can say that will romanticize what you will go through and what you will experience the moment when you fail, especially if your failure leaves you broken inside.
But maybe there is something I can say that will help you get up after you fail.
It’s Okay
I feel like the first thing you need to remember the moment you fail, especially if you really tried and gave it your all, is that ‘It is Okay’.
Forgive my language but, Shit happens.
Sometimes no one will ever tell you that it is okay so you have to say it to yourself. And even if someone does tell you that, it is important that you believe it because only then will you remain positive minded about your future and staying positive is an important mind set to have if you wish to ever get up.
So it is okay to feel what you are feeling and go throw the motions. It is okay if you feel like walking around in your pyjamas all day for a short while. Cry if you have to.
Take all the time you need to heal emotionally.
Just never let a bad day make you feel like you have a bad life. Just because today is painful doesn’t mean tomorrow won’t be great. You will be okay.
Remember that You have made progress
Failure means you actually tried.
And whether you see it or not you have made progress no matter how small or slow you may think it is. Each failure comes with a lesson that you can carry over the next time you try again. Each failure and setback presents a chance for you to grow.
If you brush yourself off and keep pressing forward, you will learn something and you will earn another chance to get it right.
Rely on your close ones for support
There are things in life that we just can’t get through on our own and we need to rely on people who are willing to be there for us.
Sometimes a beer with a friend will make you feel better and sometimes moving back in with your mom may just be the thing that you need to help you get back up.
Use the people that love and support you to patch you back together, they will be glad to help you out.
Do what you need to do in order to get other people to help you out.
Work your way through it and get it out of your system
Some great advice I’d give someone who has failed marvelously is to express themselves and just get it out there.
You may have just lost your job, or you may have driven your startup to the ground, or your relationship failed. Whatever happened, expressing it is going to help you work through it.
Use any method you are comfortable with to do this.
Record it, write it down or make a video about it. Explain what happened, what went wrong, how you feel and the lessons you picked up from that failure.
You don’t have to show it or share the video to anyone if you don’t want, you just need to get it out of your system.
Get back up and continue pressing forward
Sometimes with failure comes fear and insecurities that will stop us from moving forward, your natural instinct when you fail will be to beat yourself up and stop yourself from growing.
But when you mess up, don’t get stuck in a pit of failure, dust yourself up and continue pressing forward.
The longer you stay down the harder it will be for you to try again, so choose to work from commitment and not emotions. Push yourself to get back up even though it feels hard.
You can’t change what has happened, but you can try again, this time better than the last. You need to make a choice to persevere through failure; or you will find yourself in a state of stagnancy.
Life goes on.
Final thoughts…
Every little detail of your life, including your mistakes, is what made you who you are today. And this failure will contribute to who you will become.
Failing is not permanent, remind yourself that it is just part of life.
The way you handle your failure will determine if you succeed, and the tips above should help you cope with failure when it comes your way.
So allow your failure to lead you to a place of inspiration and not a place of depression.
