When you have the opportunity to ask some of the most interesting people in the world about their lives, sometimes the most fascinating answers come from the simplest questions. The Thrive Questionnaire is an ongoing series that gives an intimate look inside the lives of some of the world’s most successful people.

Thrive Global: What gives you energy?
Alexis Ohanian: Doing what I love for a living — and coffee. I get pour-overs when I’m out, but I prefer to make french press when I’m at home. Two cups a day, tops. Sometimes coffiest in the morning and not just because they’re a portfolio company.

TG: Tell us about your relationship with your phone. Does it sleep with you?
AO: It sets on the nightstand beside me, but unless there’s something pressing going on I stay off of it.

TG: How do you deal with email?
AO: Really trying to get to inbox zero, but I’m usually inbox <100.

TG: When was the last time you felt burned out?
AO: When I left Reddit in 2010. Our contracts had ended and I felt like the team was in a good place, so I left for Armenia and volunteered in Yerevan for Kiva for a few months. Had to get away from the tech bubble and nourish myself back home in the motherland.
