How often have you used the phrase “Crazy busy” to describe your life in the past week?
I’m an ER doctor, and “Crazy busy” is a phrase you’ll never hear me use. Because when you say it or think it – when you’re in what I call “Crazy Busy Mode”, you’re simply LESS able to handle the “Busy”. (I know. Listen to the story of how we handled a Thanksgiving-Eve trauma here).
But here’s the thing – you can be as busy as I am in the ER – without feeling “Crazy Busy”. In fact, you can be in what we are in the ER – in Ready Mode. Just like I’ve trained for that – you can too, using the same techniques.
I just gave a talk at TEDx Naperville (watch it here to get the full details and all the ER stories) – because it’s time to END “Crazy Busy” – and get you into Ready Mode.
Here are my 3 Techniques (watch the video for full details):
- Triage your Life – This isn’t just about a nice way to get your to-do list done – science shows us that being able to do this is crucial for how we handle stress. (click here to take the “Crazy Busy” quiz and get your free toolkit to Triage Your Life + End Crazy Busy)
- Design for Crazy – Half of handling “crazy” is how you prepare for it in the first place. In the ER, we don’t say “If it’s crazy”, we plan for “when it gets crazy”. You can, too.
- Get out of your own head. We get in our own way. It’s as simple as that – and it’s not so much the outside world, but our inner monologue that derails us.
You’ve always had the capability – but now? You’re READY.
All my best, Dr. Darria
