I am quite hardworking and actually good with money too. I can save, build, invest, and create success. Saving for an emergency fund, or as my grandma used to call it, “save for the rainy day, Gagan” was never too hard for me. Saving was drilled into me by the two strongest and resilient women in my life — my mom and my paternal grandma. But something was not right. Throughout my life, money had a low-level energy tag attached to it. Money did not come easy and definitely did not stick for long. When it was my time to use the money for something I really wanted, either there was not enough, it was not the priority, or I simply could not justify spending it on myself.
If I have to put my self in a category — spending or saving, I will fit in the saving category. I never liked debt and growing up in India, I did not know what a credit card was, unless after my move to the US. Then the tsunami of financial struggles hit me in my early twenties. Starting a life and family, as a first-generation immigrant was hard, and I did my time from all aspects.
