At Thrive, our mission is to end the global epidemic of stress and burnout. But doing that requires rethinking our approach to health care. We hear a lot about prevention — but right now, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 75 percent of our health care spending goes toward the treatment of conditions that can be prevented, like heart disease and diabetes. When you include mental health, it goes up to 90 percent. To change those trends requires going upstream to talk about the root causes of these conditions. That’s where we can have the most impact.
And that’s why I’m so excited about the upcoming FORTUNE Brainstorm Health conference, which I’ll be co-chairing along with FORTUNE Magazine Editor-in-Chief Clifton Leaf and Dr. David Agus, Professor of Medicine and Engineering at the University of Southern California. It will be two days of panels and discussions with the world’s top business leaders, policy makers, entrepreneurs and scientists on the most exciting, innovative and cutting-edge developments that will shape the future of technology and healthcare.
Some of the talks include Catherine Price, author of How to Break Up With Your Phone, on how technology is affecting our mental health; Dr. Judson Brewer on “How to Hack our Brains into Better Health”; Dr. Lisa Damour on “Learning How Stress & Anxiety Can Be Your Friends”; Kaiser Permanente CEO Bernard J. Tyson on living longer and living healthier; and Emmy Award-winning actress Edie Falco on her battle with breast cancer.Technology is giving us unprecedented power not just to heal us when we get sick, but empowering us to take control of our own health and well-being so we can thrive in every aspect of our lives. And FORTUNE Brainstorm Health has become the global hub for this conversation. The conference is by invitation only, but if you’d like to join us, you can apply for an invite here!
