Helping underserved high school students prepare for their futures

Kanya Balakrishna, a 2015 GLG Social Impact Fellow, is Co-Founder and President of The Future Project (TFP), a national initiative to help high school students prepare for their futures. To do this, TFP trains, recruits, and dispatches “Dream Directors” to schools across the United States, who then work directly with students, teachers, and administrators. Since its founding in 2011, The Future Project has launched in more than 50 schools, serving more than 30,000 students across seven major American cities. TFP used GLG’s knowledge platform to connect with their global membership of more than 600,000 experts as they expanded their reach across the country.

Closing the healthcare gap with affordable health technology

Krista Donaldson, a 2016 GLG Social Impact Fellow, is the CEO of D-Rev, a nonprofit medical device organization working to close the quality healthcare gap by designing and distributing affordable health technologies. D-Rev focuses on technology to promote mobility and newborn health. As they worked to expand their portfolio of products, D-Rev used GLG’s knowledge platform to connect to their global membership of more than 600,000 experts. D-Rev has now developed five new medical devices. Their products can be found in 61 countries and 371,000 patients have been treated around the world.

Mobilizing a movement for health equity

Barbara Bush is the Co-Founder, Board Chair, and former CEO of Global Health Corps (GHC) and a 2016 GLG Social Impact Fellow. GHC is a leadership development organization working to mobilize a movement for health equity by supporting the next generation of healthcare leaders. Since 2009, GHC has placed talented and creative young professionals from diverse backgrounds in high-impact global health positions in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia. Through their GLG Social Impact Fellowship, GHC connected with GLG’s global membership to help them scale strategically. The GHC community has grown to almost 750 emerging leaders, 90% of which stay in the field after their fellowship, with 83% in mid-level or senior leadership roles.
