“You are the rainbow of hope in someone else’s grey sky” — Emily Madill

What might change in your life if you focused for a week, a day, or even an hour, on reaching out to do something unexpected and kind for the special people in your life? You know, the people who may be in need of a boost and would benefit from having some extra care and attention from you.

The people near and dear to us are the ones we can count on to show up. They are the ones who genuinely have our best interests at heart. These people want to see us succeed. They celebrate our victories and their hearts ache during our times of sorrow.

Sometimes life can become busy, or perhaps things are going so well that we inadvertently overlook these beacons of light in our lives. It is so important to take the initiative to check in with our important people and pay them a gift of confidence or a random act of kindness.

It could be as simple as expressing genuine interest in what is going on in their lives. Showing up for others is an integral part of nurturing these important connections we have. You never know when showing up could be the highlight or turning point in your special someone’s day.

Being thoughtful and considerate of the needs of others is an enormous boost to both parties. One of the best experiences in life is being gifted the opportunity to witness the very heart of who someone is, and to feel what it is like to be truly seen by another.

We all have the ability to give this love freely and openly to our cherished people. It feels so good to be that strong shoulder, especially when we know it provides a glimpse of hope and joy in another’s life.

So this week as you take part in the many facets of life, dedicate some time to giving back to those special people in your life. Be that source of sunshine for someone else. Lift their spirits and be the reason that they have a smile and a hopeful heart.
