Life is enough of a challenge and everyone is fighting a unique battle. If we cannot help them win, at least we can try they don’t lose because of us. Humility can really make a difference, not only in our lives but also in the life of others. If you are in a position where you can make a difference, make a positive one.
Things matter, but most of the time it is OK to let go without making it a big deal. You think letting go is not a good idea, but sometimes it doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t matter if a thing or two doesn’t work the way you like. It doesn’t matter if someone asked a stupid question that you think is so obvious. It doesn’t matter if someone suggested something you haven’t thought about. It doesn’t matter if someone took longer than expected to understand something simple.
Our instant harsh reaction or a sarcastic statement can be hurtful (even if not intended) and the receiver may feel embarrassed. It is not necessary to make the other person feel stupid. Most of the time the unkind words are enough to shut people down for good and I am sure you do not want to be around dummies. Having an opinion is good but how to take it across really matters. We can be sarcastic, making others feel embarrassed, or we can be nice about it.
We may not realize but each one of us is playing a very important role in other people’s life, both when we are rude and when we are polite. Every day, every interaction is feeding human machinery with positive or negative emotions. This has a subsequent effect on their relationships, career, confidence level, growth, physical and emotional health, and family life. We must understand the far-reaching effects of one simple act and be kind enough to let go.
One must practice kindness and try to identify areas where improvement is possible. It is not always easy to identify our own weaknesses, so here are a couple of questions to help you: Do you have to win every argument and you believe changing your opinion if the counter argument makes more sense will let you down? Do you think every next person is stupid and does not understand even if you explain? Do you make people feel bad for asking a very simple question having an obvious answer? Do you like puzzling people and you enjoy it when they are puzzled? Do you feel proud when you shut the other person down in an argument?
It’s never too late to change. Pay attention and you can make a real difference in people’s life. Who knows your kindness becomes the reason of someone’s success.
