So I kind of just realized that I’m trying way too hard to make every video hit this whole checklist of entertainment, sensibility, confidence, etc. And it’s all just me trying to safeguard myself from failure and looking like an idiot. It’s under the guise of quality control, but these are videos for youtube, where QC has little reach anyway. It’s a battlefield of experimenting, click-baity cover art, and the search for a creative voice that has you at your most vulnerable. There is no safeguarding against failure then, and it often requires us to test our limits.

Hopefully even my most stupid videos will encourage someone to do what they’ve always wanted; be a sort of safety net that says ‘whatever you wanna try, you better just fricken do it.’

Finding your creative voice is a sport. Forget Resistance. You show up as the worst player on the field, grateful you even get to play the game, and that’ll help. At first there’s humility, aggressive determination, maybe even some joy- all the flavors our soul wants us to experience in work. Your steps forward are only bold if you don’t know what’s there, and you are alone off the path. Many of the threats that come up here are from you. Even if your partner doesn’t approve the piece, your response is the revealing tell. We are the obstacle.

Here’s an excerpt from my poem NEXT,

But she sees magnificence in all things

The more she sees, the easier it is to see

A garden cultivated of simplicity

It’s all simple if we can not see too much

Making monsters we feel the need to fight

Before battle, die to this, and you’ll do alright.
