Establishing a care routine and discovering which products work best for your skin can be fun but also time-consuming and expensive going in blind. Bryn Carden is a proud Miss Kemah Teen USA who promotes health and wellness from fitness to skin. She shared her best tips below to help you build a skincare routine and choose the right products.

How to Build a Skincare Routine

Finding the proper skincare routine that works best for you can be quite a journey, and I’m here to help ease the pain! The three basic and main steps for any skincare routine are cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Cleansing is when you wash and rinse your face, toning is a process that balances the skin, and moisturizing helps to soften and hydrate your skin. Basing your skincare routine around these three steps will set your skin up for success over time! Many people, including myself, use their skincare routine twice a day as a staple process to begin mornings with and to end days.

Picking the Best Products for Your Skin

When it comes to choosing the right products that would best benefit your skin, getting to know your skin is the best place to start! For example, my skin quickly becomes dry and dehydrated, so one of the products that I just adore that does an excellent job and helps my skin appear smooth and tone is Bio-Oil Multiuse Skincare Oil. The ingredients in this product that help with hydrating skin, uneven skin tone, and even scars include vitamin A and vitamin E, calendula, lavender, rosemary, and chamomile oils. So, let’s explore what type of skin you might have and what ingredients to look out for when finding your perfect products!

Dry Skin and Sensitive Skin: My skin is both dry and sensitive, so I like to hydrate my skin with products that moisturize my skin without sparking the drama of irritation. Looking for products with ingredients such as spualane oil, niacinamide, bakuchiol, hyaluronic, ceramides, and colloidal oatmeal will help steer you in the right direction for maximum effective products! And to avoid any unfortunate situations, don’t forget to spot test before completely committing to a product!

Acne-Prone Skin: Acne can be frustrating to deal with, and oftentimes, acne-prone skin will worsen before it gets better when trying out a new project. Start your product search by choosing options that include ingredients like chemical exfoliants, retinoids, azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and niacinamide.

Aging Skin: When your skin starts to show signs of fine lines, sagging skin, wrinkles, and photodamage dark spots, it might be time to check out products with ingredients such as retinoids, niacinamide, vitamin C, peptides, sunscreen, and ceramides.

Hyperpigmentation: For skin that has scars and discoloration or hyperpigmentation, use products that have ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, hydroquinone, chemical exfoliants, and sunscreen.

In addition to finding a reliable cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, it is also a good idea to get in the habit of putting on face sunscreen before going outside to help keep your skin looking young. Sunscreen can be found in face moisturizers or makeup.
