When you set a goal, you want to get right on it, right?

Taking action is bold. It’s sexy. You can track its progress.

Then the goal slips between your fingers. You fall short. Or you reach the goal only to feel unsatisfied.

Sometimes it all self destructs after what looked like a win. You win in one area of your life, and another area is circling the drain.

The truth is you have to clear your baggage first.

The truth is rarely sexy. It’s not flashy. It’s likely not very exciting.

The truth is, you wouldn’t build a skyscraper on a weak foundation, so why are you trying to build the life of your dreams without addressing your foundation first?

Is it pretty? No.

But it’s necessary to get the beautiful outcome you’re looking for.

I don’t care what area of your life you’re trying to improve, clear your own baggage first.

Want deeper, more fulfilling relationships?
Want to grow your wealth?
Want to learn new skills?
Want to get your body in shape?
Want that promotion?

Strengthen your foundation, so you can build the life you want.

For all forms of growth and change, work on your baggage first.

What does that look like?

Release your negative emotions.
Root out your limiting beliefs.
Reconcile your conflicting thoughts.
Forgive yourself and others.
Let go of attachments.

I’m like you, I want to get right onto the action steps of my goals. That’s the fun and exciting part, but I know if I skip the personal work, I’m not likely to get the best results from my actions.

Over time, I’ve learned I get the fastest and the most solid personal results from NLP (neuro linguistic programming), EFT (emotional freedom technique), meditation, prayer, and contemplation.

Those are the tools I turn to personally and for my clients to root out baggage.

Name your goals after you do your personal baggage work.

That’s right, don’t even bother listing your goals until you release your baggage.

Why? Baggage is a major driver of what you think you want and don’t want in your life.

After you release your baggage, your goals and priorities may be different.

No longer motivated by your old fears, prejudices, and limiting beliefs, you’re empowered to set genuine goals that align with your higher purpose.

Now you can create your compelling future.

Only then do you begin to take action.
