How many times have you found yourself making excuses to slack? Gone through a tough time and just don’t feel like you have the energy to do the next right thing? Made a commitment to consistent action, but sometimes lack the willpower to see it through?

Yesterday I had a hip replacement, my second surgery and final resolution to five months of pain after a horseback riding accident. For anyone who’s had surgery, you know the day after is the worst. I’ve spent most of my day laying on the couch, icing my hip and napping.

But here’s the thing. I recently made a commitment to a new way of living, one requiring me to take action every day. The great thing about action is it can be as big or as small as you are capable of at any given moment.

Today I can’t walk without assistance, but my hands work just fine. By taking the small act of writing this blog post, I met my commitment to daily action with little effort. I’ll go to bed tonight knowing I didn’t use my recovery from surgery as an excuse to slack on my responsibility to myself.

Today I understand taking action is a daily opportunity to move my life in a new direction, even on days I don’t feel good or have the drive to do so. Today I keep moving forward so I don’t lose momentum. I’m committed. Are you?
