As of late, I’m beginning to think the universe is trying to hit me over the head, given the writing topics/themes the publications I write for have been sending out. Last weeks, traits of a healthy relationship; This weeks, what are the traits of a confident woman?

This one, for some reason, resonated with me. Probably, because these traits are an important part of building body positivity and self love.

The topic truly got me to thinking about what traits exemplify self-confidence. What traits do I and my friends possess that make us confident women.

This is the list I came up with:

Confident women live their purpose

Your purpose is to be authentically you.

No more, no less.

In the end, you can only wear a mask for so long before it slips. It’s always better to be authentically you upfront, quirks and all.

Also, when you celebrate your fears, neuroses, and quirks, suddenly these qualities become assets that no one can use against you.

Confident women spend (and love) time alone

A drop in confidence can come when plans aren’t made or fall through, or when your significant other doesn’t text because he’s busy with real life things, such as work, and you’re left with time alone.

How empowering is it when this time becomes an actual gift!

There’s nothing that revives my confidence more than time alone. Wait, let me clarify: time alone that is occupied with self-love. If I spend my alone time wallowing in misery, I perpetuate my insecurities and don’t celebrate my gifts.

When I use this solitary time to work on my projects, or research/study topics of interest, or just use it as me/downtime, it becomes a positive time of self-love.

Know what you need to make this precious time with yourself the best time. There is nothing sexier than a woman who ADORES her own company and isn’t blowing up her man’s phone with texts.

Confident women take nothing (or very little) personally

Do you know of any confident woman who takes everything personally? Those with true confidence know that any perceived ego blow is more a reflection of the speaker than of themselves.

When you’re able to hear criticism and not take it personally, your reactions change. Life isn’t so much of a drama.

Confidence emerges naturally with life-love.

Confident women admit their flaws

No one is perfect.

Shocking, I know!

Self-assured women not only admit their imperfections, but they also applaud them. They know where their strengths lie, where they can improve and when to get the heck outta dodge and let others take the lead.

Trying to be perfect at everything is inefficient, and confident women ain’t got no time for that. They love themselves for who they are — and for who they’re not.

Confident women own their feelings

No matter what the circumstance is, confident women, strive to understand their emotions AND own them. There’s no hide and seek happening with their feelings — they let it all out.

Self-assured women take the opportunity to express themselves without blaming others, and confirm that they are understood. Then they return the favor by listening to the other side.

Confident women are open to love

Regardless of how brutal or shameful one’s romantic past may be, the opportunity for love is hardly off the table. A failed relationship is an opportunity to learn.

They know they are worthy of a great relationship, strong enough to survive if it doesn’t work out, and fabulous enough to weather the crappy outcomes.

Confident women support others

Self-assured women love watching their friends soar. Cheering on others’ businesses, relationships and successes do not diminish any of our own accomplishments; it highlights them! They don’t see celebrating other successes as a lack of their own.

Confident women know that by straightening another woman’s crowns, they are straightening their own.

So, be bold. Be brave. Be confident. Love the body you stand in.
