“Creativity is not a talent, it’s a way of operating” – said John Cleese.

During the childhood, your child’s brain goes through what author Dan Siegel calls “remodeling”. Remodeling is a process that helps build a stronger + more effective brain. So what does it means?

A child brain is flexible and adaptable, with the right type of experiment and experiment, the child can learn new ways of thinking, raise the imaginative bar and even envision for the future.

At STEM + Art Education, we believe science literacy is critical for all young and old, scientists or non-scientist. We also believe that art education helps to build essential interpretive skills hence when art is connected to STEM through mutually reinforcing objectives students’ learning deepens in both areas.

Our programs are specially designed for children between the ages of 5 to 17, to kick start the young learners in becoming inventor with “The Little Makers”.

✅ A Robot toy built by her child foster an open-ended imagination, which yields for higher creative-play at home.

✅ The Ideate, Prototype, Test, and Iterate process on our children’s design and lab work, is set to provide the ground for the kids towards their greater experiments and brainstorms in future.

Designed for kids aged 5-12, our 2-day Introductory robot-building workshop teaches STEAM principles that are the foundation for designing and building robots. Objective is for the children to apply that knowledge to create their own robot that they can take home, so the young learners don’t just learn how to build stuff, but also discover the principles of science behind how it works.

In our Introductory Robot class, we offered step-by-step workshop to design, build and DIY own robot:

– Learn the science behind machines and how they work
– Sharpen creativity, innovation & entrepreneurial skills by creating new and useful machines
– Observe & experience how to handle tools correctly in the building process guided by experienced facilitators
– Increase self-confidence by creating a working machine

✅ Program completed.

The holiday program was for absolute beginners, that’s basically why we start-up the DIY-Robot class for very young children. No experience is required as the children shall come to us and learn. We build robot from scratch, using skills that are not usually taught in normal school classes, an excellent way to foster a love for science and engineering in young kiddos, we have student as young as 4 y/o to join our last DIY-Robot class, learning the basic wiring, electronics, mechanics, even physic concepts on how to adjust the stopper and wheel the gear.

Children were DIY their very own robots in the DIY-Robot class, in their own design, with the most basic machining and mechanic skills that they learned hands-on. Robots are cool to play, it gets even awesome if it’s built by the kids, to have an own bring-home robot at the end of day.

Aside from the Introductory robot-building workshop, we have also Hybrid Robot program – a robot printed by 3D printer (after 3D Design), controlled by programming (using mobile app). Robot components were comprised of servo, motors, PCB board, wireless and controller, where electronics are involved.

Why we introduce 3D design and printing into our syllabus? That’s because spatial awareness is 1 of the building block for STEM learning. Do you realize you are visualizing a location map while you are in a shopping mall, a school or even at home? We all use the skill every day, even in mapping out a new route in our driving. That’s called spatial awareness. Thinking in 3-D – It’s a skill that all children needs.
✅ The ability to visualize objects
✅ The skills to fit entities into a space
✅ The experience in manipulating shapes

Little do one knows that 3D thinking is especially critical for specialist like architects, dancer, fashion designers and even a doctor who performs surgery. All of the profession mentioned above need to imagine the end product as their work progress.

What we believe in is, we need to lay the foundation of skillets to our children. Masterpiece from our children are also their dreams work in progress.
