Mental clarity is the key to success in business. Yet, being mentally strong in business is the last thing many entrepreneurs focus on during their day-to-day activities. Why are entrepreneurs not focusing on their thoughts when those thoughts shape the outlook of their business?

To be mentally strong in business, try to avoid these five bad habits that can ruin your productivity.

Five Things Daniel Pessin Says You Must Avoid being Mentally Strong and Successful in Business

1. Not Planning

If you want your business to be successful, you have to stop expecting things to just work out for you. Success takes planning. You need to schedule time at the start of the week to set your priorities and put them into your calendar. Nothing will get done until you plan to actually do the work.

The most successful entrepreneurs take time at the end of the week to look back and check if they accomplished all the goals they planned for the week. Were there projects that could have gone better? Are there any projects that need to get done at the beginning of next week? How much time was wasted?

After your review your goals from last week, you should start planning plan for next week. Consider what goals are most important. Which goals are helping to improve your profit or to help expand your business? Try to focus on those goals and schedule them early in the week to give yourself a better chance to complete them.

2. Refusing to Act

A mentally strong person does not get caught up in fear, becoming stagnant in business. Don’t waste time worrying about pleasing everyone. You will never please everyone and it should never slow you down.

You can’t control every aspect of a business. What you can control is how you react when you catch a bad break. So, calculate your risks for each task and move forward towards your goals. You may not win every time, but you can limit your losses with careful planning.

3. Giving Up After One Try

This is a big one. A lot of people try to do something one way, and when it doesn’t work, they give up. You will never be successful if you’re willing to give up so easily. Mentally strong people know it takes repeated effort to see success. That means you will fail many times before you succeed and you should be ok with that. It’s normal.

In fact, successful entrepreneurs will analyze their failures and learn from the experience. They will get feedback and figure out why they failed, and try again.

Sometimes you really have to dig deep to find what’s not working. Don’t be an entrepreneur who fails because you are not willing to try something new or make changes. Yes, your opinion matters, but do you know whose opinion matters more? The market.

4. Having Expectations

Being a successful entrepreneur and creating a successful startup is challenging. Yet, many entrepreneurs expect success because of their background. Going to the right school or knowing the right people doesn’t guarantee you success anymore.

Mentally strong people understand today’s consumers rely on reviews from other customers. Success is earned with your effort. Work smart and deliver an exceptional product or service. This means taking an attitude of service. Serve not deserve.

5. Expecting Overnight Success

Overnight success is not real. If you want success, it takes time, a lot of hard work, planning. Most importantly, overcoming failure. Don’t expect your plan to work perfectly the first time. Always be willing to listen to feedback, adjust, and improve.
