The leaves are changing, the nights are getting longer, and Jackolanterns are slowly starting to make their appearances around the neighborhood. With the cold nights and windy days, there’s nothing that quite gets you in the Halloween spirit as much as a horror movie.
Although I will admit I hate scary movies, for some reason there’s something about October that puts me in the mood for one. I’ve done the research on the best scary movies available across different cable channels and streaming services, so just sit back, relax (or don’t), and heed my advice on which movies to watch this spooky season and where you can find them:
With Halloween coming up, Netflix prepared early by adding a few new horror movies to their list of choices. Check out Cult of Chucky, The Babadook, We are Still Here, The Invitation, Creep, and The Nightmare, for starters. All of these are definitely more horror themed, and are a perfect choice for snuggling up with a new date.
If you’re feeling like you want more suspense rather than horror, check out Jaws, Train to Busan, or Troll Hunter.
And last but not least, my personal Halloween favorite – The Nightmare Before Christmas has made its way onto Netflix for your seasonal viewing.
For those of you Amazon junkies, Prime has a few great horror movies you need to check out. An American Werewolf in London, Night of the Living Dead, and The Blackcoats Daughter are among a few of my personal favorites.
Hulu.
Hulu has one of the biggest selections, offering a few spooky classics: Cloverfield, Sleepy Hollow, The Haunting in Connecticut, & The Silence of the Lambs. Those ones are probably the scariest offered, in my personal opinion. If you want something a wee less scary, go for Open Water, Hostel, or Ginger Snaps.
HBO.
HBO has a great selection this year for you horror junkies. For more of suspense, check out The Purge. For those of you who want a real scare, check out The Amityville Horror, or The Blair Witch Project. These three movies will definitely get you in the mood.
Last but not least, if you’re like me and you still have good ol’ cable, here are the top shows you can view for Halloween.
Of course we can go the classic route and watch The Walking Dead on AMC, or head over to Showtime to catch older classics like Death do us Part, The Hills Have Eyes, or Nocturne. If your cable provider is Dish, then you also have access to channels like ABC & Disney, which will showcase my personal favorites; It’s the great pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Hocus Pocus, and Halloweentown.
