The term Blue Zones has been used to describe places where people live long and healthy lives. What exactly does it take to live a long and healthy life? What is the science and the secret behind longevity and life extension? In this series, we are talking to medical experts, wellness experts, and longevity experts to share “5 Things You Need To Live A Long, Healthy, & Happy Life”. As a part of this series, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing DJ Jordan.

DJ Jordan is the sole proprietor of My Olive Leaf. My Olive Leaf blossomed from a desire to help his family, community, and health. Watching his family suffer from preventable diseases and the pitfalls of Western medicine was difficult, but it spurred him to become a holistic wellness advocate.

Thank you so much for joining us! Our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your ‘backstory’?

It’s nice to meet you. I’m DJ Jordan. I’m the sole proprietor of My Olive Leaf (www.ShopMyOliveLeaf.com).

My Olive Leaf blossomed from a desire to help my family and community with better health. Watching my family suffer from preventable diseases and the pitfalls of Western medicine was difficult, but it spurred me to become a holistic wellness advocate. I set off on a quest to find accessible alternative therapies for chronic illnesses affecting millions in the United States. And it led me to discover the benefits of olive leaf extract.

Can you share with us the most interesting story from your career? Can you tell us what lessons or ‘takeaways’ you learned from that?

My most interesting story comes from an elderly woman age 96 in Chicago who was very reluctant to try the product due to being on high blood pressure medication for years. She finally tried the product with the support of her family and after years of struggling with high blood pressure issues, she now has blood pressure in the “normal range” without medication. I would say my takeaway is that you are never too up in age to act on your well-being. Never give up on yourself; I know people who have started their journey in their 60s and running marathons.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?

My wife is a very influential part of my life. Before we met years ago I was inspired to change my lifestyle which was already her reality. Through her influence, in no time my life changed. Like the old saying, when the student is ready the teacher will arrive. In addition to my personal transformation, my wife provided me with encouragement and support as I worked to figure out the various formulations of my Olive Leaf products. She continued to speak “life” into me during those long days and nights, and still today.

You are a successful leader. Which three character traits do you think were most instrumental to your success? Can you please share a story or example for each?

I think in order to be a successful leader, you must first

  1. Lead by example it’s like the old saying: practice what you preach. I may be telling my age here but the saying could never get old. Be authentic in your approach!
  2. Be open to constructive criticism, especially from customers; this will take a business a long way. Besides, customers want to be heard, right? So be open to feedback.
  3. Having integrity, in the wellness sector is extremely important as we are dealing with people’s lives and health. I thank the thousands of customers who have trusted me with their health; since the company started 8 years ago.

Ok, thank you for all that. Now let’s shift to the main focus of our interview about health and longevity. To begin, can you share with our readers a bit about why you are an authority in the fields of health, wellness, and longevity? In your opinion, what is your unique contribution to the world of wellness?

My unique contribution to the world of wellness is formulating quality and effective herbal solutions. By offering this gift to the world it limits the side effects and dependencies found with taking prescribed drugs or unnatural substances. In addition to providing natural solutions to the world, I encourage and share the benefits of adopting a nutritious and balanced lifestyle.

I have discussed this on multiple podcasts specifically related to high blood pressure and diabetes, as these are the two leading conditions in people living in the Western hemisphere. By subscribing to our email list, a person will learn much of what I offer on the educational side of wellness.

Seekers throughout history have traveled great distances and embarked on mythical quests in search of the “elixir of life,” a mythical potion said to cure all diseases and give eternal youth. Has your search for health, vitality, and longevity taken you on any interesting paths or journeys? We’d love to hear the story.

It’s relevant that we’re talking about the “elixir of life.” Olive leaf extract is sometimes called an “elixir of life” due to its many potential health benefits and long history of use in traditional medicine.

I’ve lived in Atlanta, GA, for 15 years but am proud to call New Orleans home. Most of my family, including my father, moved into FEMA trailers waiting to rebuild homes or relocate after Hurricane Katrina. I believe he developed aggressive intestinal cancer due to his extended stay in toxic environmental living conditions. My father slowly deteriorated through each painful experimental treatment until he passed in 2011. Western medicine could only provide him minimal comfort before the end. There began my research into alternative approaches and my journey to learn about the overwhelming health benefits of olive leaf extract.

My mission became to share knowledge of preventative practices, nutrient-dense foods, and scientifically proven alternative remedies for better health and wellness. While it is important to note that there is no magical cure-all, olive leaf extract has antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, immune system support, cardiovascular benefits, and potential anti-cancer properties.

Based on your research or experience, can you please share your “5 Things You Need To Live A Long & Healthy Life”? (Please share a story or an example for each)

  1. Drink water and hydrate properly including by way of natural cold-pressed fruit juices. For instance, most liquid solutions have a faster healing response to the body. The main reason our Olive Leaf is liquid and not capsules. By drinking fruit juice, nutrients are going directly to the cells of the body for repair and restoring its vitality.
  2. Avoid stressful relationships or situations that could affect poor lifestyle choices and peaceful rest. As we know people seek substance abuse and a poor diet when under stress. We may have all heard the saying stress kills. So yes avoid stress!
  3. Make walking and regular exercise a lifestyle. Anything stagnant is essentially dead, therefore, we have to stay physically mobile for many reasons including proper blood flow.
  4. Incorporate fruits and veggies in your diet while removing those foods with 0 nutritional value. For all the benefits we know fruits and veggies should be part of our lifestyle. However, some foods rob us of our nutrients, energy, and vitality.
  5. Meditate daily to receive a natural dose of dopamine and strong mental muscles. Meditation is a very simple technique for gaining focus, relieving stress, and bringing eternal order.

Can you suggest a few things needed to live a life filled with happiness, joy, and meaning?

  1. Having relationships that reflect your values and lifestyle.
  2. Don’t compare or compete.
  3. Accept love yourself the way you are and know you have to resources to achieve your desires
  4. Love yourself through the highs and the lows

Some argue that longevity is genetic, while others say that living a long life is simply a choice. What are your thoughts on this nature vs. nurture debate? Which is more important?

Genetics is very important and can’t be overlooked but this isn’t to say nurture will not bring the same results. During my journey, I have found several people up in age who have lived the longest in their families simply by transforming their lives. What is important most to me is quality of life because we will all soon transition.

Life sometimes takes us on paths that are challenging. How have you managed to bounce back from setbacks in order to cultivate physical, mental, and emotional health?

Good question, The information I share is truly my lifestyle; therefore many of these self-care techniques have been a big influence on my ability to bounce back from setbacks. In addition, I have a very strong family as a support system.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Do you have a story about how that was relevant in your life?

Stay focused and untie knots. I applied this life lesson quote to my life and this is how My Olive Leaf was birthed.

You are a person of enormous influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂
