The other day I was having a conversation with this one woman when she asked me this question, What can we do to overcome our negative feelings more easily?

Instead of answering the question I asked her another question. If we understand that we are only experiencing our thinking, then does it matter if we feel negative sometimes?

The woman paused. A warm smile appeared upon her face when she answered, No, it doesn’t.

It’s common that we think that we need to do something to our feelings. We often think that we need to change our emotions, think positively or do yoga to be able to feel good again.

What if it was simpler than that?

The other day I was not feeling my best. I was not in the best mood and felt tired. I thought I would give myself a break and do the work I was supposed to do later. I didn’t see it as a problem that I was not feeling good. Learning more where our experiences come from has got me to understand that there’s really nothing we need to do to our emotions.

If we see that we are only experiencing our thinking, and that the nature of thought is that it’s constantly changing, then does it matter if we feel negative sometimes? When we are having our negative feelings it simply tells us that we are caught up in our thinking. If we don’t create a problem of not feeling great, and interrupt the natural flow of our thinking, our mind starts to calm down.

Having a calm and clear mind is our natural state of being. We always come back to this state as soon as we let go of our thinking. This is the place from where we feel balanced, happy and grateful.

Seeing this helps us to be more in peace with life and our feelings. We can see that there’s nothing we really need to do in order for us to feel good again. In fact the less we do and try to control our feelings, the less thinking we create and the more easily our mind can calm down. Recognizing this gives us an opportunity to be in peace with how we are feeling, even when we are having our negative emotions.

I ended up realizing that I was having some fever, which perfectly explained me why I was not feeling so great. However, either way it’s natural that we have our moods and don’t feel our best all the time.

The less we see our negative emotions as a problem the more in peace we can be with our feelings and the more easily our mind can calm down and bring us back to balance — To our natural state of our being.
