There is an epidemic happening in the world today, that is as potentially damaging as anything else we could experience. What is the epidemic I speak of? Clear and simple, we do not know who we are.
If I could offer you, the reader, one present, the gift I would offer you is that you know who you are. That you would see you are beautiful beyond measure, talented beyond your wildest imagination and that you are capable of way more than you ever dreamed possible. That you would understand what brings you joy; and you would run to that and do more of it so that your days were filled with things that make you happy; and that you would identify the things that bring you pain and that you would love yourself enough t stop doing them right this minute.
My wish for all of us is our greatest success, but how can we succeed in anything; business or relationship, self care or education, if we don’t know who we are? If we don’t know who is the one who is succeeding?
So many of us think we are what we do and we define ourselves by our past successes, but who we are is not what we do.
The most important thing our schools need to teach our children is not the memorisation of facts that our kids can google and have the answers to in a moment, but rather we need to teach our children
how to be themselves. We need to help them connect to the answers that are all around them that no one else sees; we need to help them learn new ways of seeing, new ways of thinking, and to honor every voice so that we may find new ways to work together and new solutions.
In a world where connection is something we all want why do so few of us have any idea how to connect to ourselves and each other, how to see beyond what everyone else sees and together see something new.
The most important thing we can do for another person is listen to them; to hold the space without judgement for them to speak their truth and to share with us their fears; to laugh with us and explore new boundaries of joy; to let go of all the old beliefs of what is possible and what is not and allow them to discover who they are in this new reality.
