When I first heard the term “wholuck” I thought I heard wrong. Jim Collins used it when he was on the Tim Ferriss Show, sounding at first like he was making some kind of weird hiccup. What did he mean by “wholuck”? I waited for Ferris to ask, but no answer came. So I kept listening.

Here’s what I gathered:

Wholuck is meeting a person who can have a significant positive impact on your future.

Charming, right?

Wholuck is ultimately about connecting with the right person at the right time for what you uniquely need. They could give you some vital information you might need to know. They might be able to introduce you to someone who could manifest all sorts of goodness. They could give you feedback that alters your path, and they could… well, you get the picture.

Thinking back to all of my own experiences of wholuck, I realized something.

Yes, the other person was an incredible human being — no question about that. But I had a part in the magic, too: I was prepared for the conversation and also open to it happening.

Here’s what else I’ve noticed about wholuck.

  1. Often, people don’t have their “ask” ready.
  2. They’re nervous about moving forward when the opportunity manifests.
  3. When I ask people, “Is there anything you need?” they frequently stare at me looking puzzled.
  4. A bunch of people bailed when I created an intentional wholuck manifesting event.
  5. Every single person who’s allowed me to generate wholuck for them has manifested some awesome shenanigans—for themselves, and for both of us.

I get that it’s super hard to put your asks out there. But, let’s face it. As much as we’d like other people to read our minds, it doesn’t happen.

If you want someone to have a significant positive impact on your future, you have to be able to tell them what you want and need. Then that someone can help you.

Of course, just because you take a chance on putting your ask out doesn’t mean you’ll instantly manifest wholuck. You might face some disappointment. But even then, having one extra person knowing what you need is better than it staying a little secret in your head, right?

So here’s what I think we should do:

  • Stop using the term “networking” and call these events “wholuck manifestation.” The re-branding alone might open up our minds.
  • If you want to manifest, know what it is you want to manifest. Show up ready with an ask. (Heck, show up with more than one. I have lots.)
  • YOU can manifest wholuck for other people! Ask the person you’re talking to if they need anything.

To kick things off, I’m going to put out three asks (yes, I told you to have more than one because you never know.) I want to see if one of you can manifest some wholuck for me.

  1. I’d like to have a meeting with Gwynne Shotwell, President of SpaceX. I think she’s a total ladybadass, but no one knows she is. (Plus, if you’ve seen me speak this year, you know she’s in dire need of a Jo Jo makeover.)
  2. The “Jo Jo Makeover” experience needs technology. My gut tells me that some AI magic will help me with my 1,000,000 makeover goal. I KNOW that some brilliant person will be able to help me make it happen.
  3. Let’s start having Wholuck Happy Hours. So fun! Do you want to be invited, help me organize, or just tell me you’re game with the whole idea? Send me your info here, and you’ll hear more. (Rose, if you’re reading this, you’re already on my list. 🙂

We all deserve amazing wholuck, And we have the power to make it happen for each other.

So let’s do this.

Let the wholuck awesomeness commence!
