We all know that too much caffeine can be detrimental to our health. Cue the jitters, lack of sleep, stress-related headaches and more.

So, how do we create more energy without reaching for that strong cup of coffee?

Here are my top tips.

Stay Hydrated

It sounds simple, I know, but not easy for many. Water will keep you well hydrated and reduce the headaches that come with lack of caffeine. Add some sliced of fresh lemon, lime or orange to a tall glass of water. Prepare a couple of litres in advance and pop in the fridge.

Dance To Your Favourite Song

Simply putting on your favourite song and turning it up loud helps put you in a positive mood. Dance like nobody’s watching!

5 Minute High-Intensity Workout

There’s no excuse for not working out. Movement creates energy and high intensity helps to drive away those pesky cobwebs. Set your timer for 40 seconds high intensity, 20 seconds rest for a total of 5 minutes.

Want a workout you can do in the privacy of your living room?

Try jump squats, running on the spot, burpees, star jumps. Mixing up your moves will keep you entertained. Be sure to keep moving during your low-intensity interval.

Enjoy Some Sunshine And Fresh Air

Simply removing yourself from an environment that is draining your energy will help. Step outside and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Kick off your shoes and walk barefoot in the grass or on the beach.

Brain Dump

You probably have more than 1000 things cluttering your mind right now and that can be exhausting in itself. Getting it out of your mind and on paper will give you clarity and relief.

Grab a few sheets of paper and a pen. Set a timer for 25 minutes and eliminate all distractions. Turn off your phone, close down your computer and GO! I love to use the Pomodoro Tracker or Tomato Timer.

Don’t worry about the mess on the paper, simply getting it all out of your head first is your main objective.

How do you feel now? Are you more energized?

So, do you think you still need coffee? I’m guessing the answer is no.
