I have recently started doing something different with my clients. Clients who are going through career transitions, managing a difficult context or relationship. Something that is a little more time consuming but I believe is far more telling about what is really going on for us, how we are feeling and what we can do about it.

I invite you to answer the following questions. It is what I like to call a full body scan, an emotional evaluation. I really recommend it and I do it myself regularly. This kind of intense work is not suitable for everyone especially if you want quick and fast solutions. This is a deep self-examination and it has compelling evidence that it can improve body awareness, stress awareness, and promote relaxation. Practice it often as this type of deliberate training is very effective.

So surrender take this time to reflect and allow yourself this time. Give yourself permission to meet yourself, step back, and get perspective on the most valuable topic in your life: you!

Ready? Great lets begin…

Find a quiet place somewhere where you won’t be disturbed. Tune into the feeling state in your body. Focus your attention on the physical sensations and the overall feeling. Welcome them with full awareness. Write down your reflections and note it down for reference later.

  • What is my emotional state?
  • What am I thinking?
  • What am I feeling in my body?
  • What do I want now?
  • What do I need to do differently now?
  • How am I getting in my own way?

If you don’t have a lot of time, you can do mini 5 minute emotional audits. Better still this practice coupled with the Headspace 3 minute body scan is doubly delicious for the soul!

Rinse and repeat ..so tell me what have you learnt about yourself today?
