Have you raised kids?
Just when I thought they would never sleep through the night, they finally did it.
Just when I thought I had them on a nap schedule, they stopped taking naps.
And when I thought they’d outgrown teething, guess what? Even school aged kids get new teeth, act cranky, and at first I had no idea why.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned from being a parent is that everything is temporary.
The hard times are temporary, and the good times are temporary.
“Nothing we can say or believe regarding matter is immortal, for matter is temporal and is therefore a mortal phenomenon, a human concept, sometimes beautiful, always erroneous.” — Mary Baker Eddy
Realizing this was game changing. I gained a great deal of inner peace.
Knowing that times are temporary makes me incredibly grateful for the blessings in my life.
It makes me revel in the everyday wonders that surround me.
It makes me pay attention, so I can soak in every wonderful moment of life.
And when times are tough, it comforts me to know it’s all temporary.
That helps me stay in the moment with less anxiety about what will happen tomorrow.
I get it. When times seem tough, it can feel like it will never end. But look back at your life. Eventually that situation did pass.
And if it hasn’t passed yet for you, please know that it will. Remind yourself that change is the nature of the universe.
Nothing is static.
When I realized that in the end, everything would be ok, fear dissolved.
