While I thought that the only jobs where one might get a burnout are the official jobs where one is holed in an office, I was shocked to find myself a fashionista getting a burn out. You see ever since child hood, I loved fashion and design. I would kill to just watch ‘The Fashion Show’ which was airing every Sunday at 10.00pm and though my parents were against my watching a tv show that late, I would persuade and cry my way into watching it.

After high school, my path had already been drawn. Nobody had to ask what I would do in college. They all knew that I wanted to go into fashion. College life was thrilling and I had the best of times. While other sciency students were trying to solve calculus and time series analysis problems, I was doing some creative work that I loved with a passion.

The fashion profession looked like one merry-go round with fashionistas being on one catwalk after the other but I was in for a rude shock. On joining it and working for three years, I can now say that it is not so glamorous as it seems

Work life balance

For one I found that I had no work life balance. If I was not chasing clients, I was preparing models for a beauty show, hurrying tailors to complete the work, leafing through fashion magazines to get inspiration on new designs. In a week, I found that I was working for more than 80 hours and every time I arrived home, I would crumble on the bed and fall.

I had no life, my husband told me and he threatened to call it quits.

Difficult to please clients

There are some clients who are so difficult to please that no matter what you do, they will never feel good. They will always have endless demands and it takes a toll on you when you want to please them. At times you just have to fire them and look for more understanding customers.

Taking Recess

After I realized that I had gotten a burn out, I decided to take a break and be with family and think nothing about fashion. The break did me a great deal of good because on coming back, you should see the kind of garments that I have curated.

There is for example this unisex adventurous Zippileather that would be great for people who are into motorcycles and want to protect themselves from the cold draughts when they are riding on their bikes.

I was also able to design some great hamlet trousers for this group of dancing women who wanted something loose and unique that they can dance in without feeling as though they are restrained by the fabric

Go to art shows and decompress by buying art items

Asked by the Guardian how  she views fashion, acclaimed designer Zandra Rhodes feels that fashion is an art where you express yourself through the designs, textures and colors of clothes that you create.

In fact most designers are inspired by art pieces that they see in museums and other places and they go ahead and try to replicate the same in the clothes that they curate. Being a fashionista, you should also invest your time and money in going to art exhibitions and shows so as to get inspired and decompress at the same time.

Ever since I started visiting art shows, my designs have been better and my clients have been appreciating them gratefully. I also stumbled on this website that deals with art for sale online and I decided to buy some of the awe-inspiring art pieces that I now have as wall hangings in my house.

An art piece like this will truly inspire a fashionista
