According to the CDC- Fibromyalgia affects 4 million people or 2% of the population.

Symptoms include muscle aches, anxiety, depression, fatigue, numbness, tingling, headache. Patients can be stiff in the morning and still feel tired despite 8 hours of sleep the night before.

Current Treatments are Physical Therapy and Pharmacotherapy. Utilizing pharmacotherapy we have medications like Elavil 50 mg at bedtime, Cymbalta 30 mg once daily then increasing to 60 mg once a day and also the medication Savella. Savella being 50 mg twice daily. Theses medications work by prohibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine and Dopamine across a very small space in between nerve cells in the human brain called a synapse.

On the Horizon is Neuromodulation with trans cranial direct current stimulation (tCDS) of 2 miliAmps to the motor cortex of the brain. Also in a randomized trial of 20 patients with Fibromyalgia Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation of The Left Prefrontal Cortex of the Human Brain is showing promise in reducing symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

So it is not all in your head. You deserve to be heard and the pain is real. Have A Blessed and Restful Day.
