I would just like to point out before reading the following principles that it is important to perceive oneself as a body of energy. Rei-Ki means Universal Energy. The all-encompassing universal energy, which resides within you and me, every plant, animal, rock, air and is all around you, is very powerful. We are all bodies of energies, living in a body of energy and experiencing energy on all levels.

When the energy in the universe is invoked with positivity, positive energy is brought in. Reiki helps one to channel that universal energy through a medium (a Reiki practitioner) towards a specific object or person thereby bringing healing and comfort. For this reason, view yourself as a positive body of energy. Just for today, you will be a certain way and that certain way only. Do not think about the future, do not dwell on the past. When you wake up in the morning tell yourself the following five principles and remind yourself these principles through out the day. Make a print out of them and put them in a place where you can see them everyday. Follow them and live them. One day you will look back at your life and realize how beautiful the journey was.

I — Just for today, I will not be angry.

Anger towards others has an affect on the surrounding environment. It affects your food, your water, the air around you, the people around you. The only way to get rid of anger is to tell yourself, promise yourself, and hold yourself accountable that just for today, I will not be angry. Let go of anger, let go of hate, let go of jealousy.

Have control over your emotions and tell yourself, “I will not be angry.” Focus on your breath for ten seconds. Place your attention on your fontanel and visualize Divine energy around you. Just for today, I will not be angry.

II — Just for today, I will not worry.

While anger causes misery and creates a terrible environment feeding off of your past, worrying isn’t going to help your future. Worrying is a dis-ease that creates energy blockages within your body. Like the Beatles said, there will be an answer…let it be. Be conscious of when you are worrying and remove yourself from the situation. Just for today, I will not worry.

III — Just for today, I will be grateful.

Practice the attitude of gratitude. Be thankful for what you have in our life. Be thankful for who you have in your life. Be thankful to the Higher Force that brought you into this life. And say thanks to your Higher Self. Transcend.

Being grateful is one of the most powerful things one can practice. When you are alone, talk to yourself. Tell yourself “thank you!” Say thanks often. Be humble and be grateful. Just for today, I will be grateful.

IV — Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Earn your living with respect. Honor your colleagues, your boss, your parents, your husband or wife, your family. Do the job at hand with honor, honesty and dignity. Earn what you earn with your hands. Own up to your mistakes. Fix them and progressively work towards building a good karma.

No one will remember the kind of house you’ve had or the nicest car you drove. You live on through others with the character you build. Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

V- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

The world just does not exist for humans. Many living beings existed before us and will exist after us. It is an honor and a privilege to take the life of a human body. Humans have the ability to create and destroy, they are powerful beings. It is a responsibility of a human to use the capabilities it has been given to understand the creation around it and make the creation more peaceful. We are the beings of light who can manifest that light consciously.

The purpose of human life truly lies in coexisting peacefully and achieving the state of oneness. Treating others respectfully, showing love towards animals, and practicing non-violence is key to living a beautiful life. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
