Flaws are Sexy: Grasping the Skill of Overcoming Self-doubts by Karan Malik

‘Flaws are as natural as the nature that surrounds us,’ says Karan Malik. The famous Instagram influencer and a model has been contributing towards helping people who suffer from, self-loathing in these modern times. We sat down with him, to discuss where does beauty and its perception stand today and what can we do to get rid of certain taboos imposed upon ourselves.

Before we dig deeper into how to get over the voice of self-doubts roaring in our minds, it is essential to know why it is necessary to acknowledge flaws and embrace it like a pro.

It’s not the presence of flaws that makes you question your appearance, instead, it’s the mindset that needs to be re-programmed to make you un-learn and learn the concepts of life. If we weren’t brain washed by the media, tabloids and beauty portals, since childhood, to only think that “beauty” lies in this cardboard box of specific criteria(s), we would have never thought of ourselves as less deserving of this title.

Regardless of the amount of times we attempt to drive our confidence from our commendations, and triumphs in existence with our imperfections, we sooner or later, fall in the pit hole of consistently self-loathing and scrutinizing our existence.

The Fault is Not in Our Stars: It’s the Society

We reside in a despicable society that endlessly compares one individual to another, pinpointing our “defects”. In such a dreadful place, pardoning ourselves for our flaws and hauling ourselves out of blame turns into a strenuous mission. What we neglect to acknowledge is that the scale of comparisons that are set by the society, comes from a place of malice and misery. A fish can never be judged on its ability to fly, or an apple cannot be succumbed to possess attributes of an orange, similarly, everyone is distinct.

You may concur with me, that once you overcome your self-doubt and give up on the hunger to mold yourself to that box of perfectionism, you will realize that inner peace that enables you to conquer the world. Our imperfections, uncertainties, and afflictions have command over us since dread underlines them – the terror of dissatisfaction, of being embarrassed, of disappointment, of lingering behind the likes, all acts like an excess baggage in our heads, that only inhibits our growth towards abundance. Letting flaws impact us perilously makes it hard for us to be buoyant or to cherish our accomplishments.

Say No to Negative Self-Talks

Negative self-talk’s sounds practically like any random individual, continually tagging to your life, exploiting your weaknesses, imperfections, downsides, and those unfortunate moments, thus limiting your spiritual and mental growth.

Focusing on negative thoughts may lead to decreased motivation as well as greater feelings of helplessness. This type of critical inner dialogue has even been linked to depression, so it’s definitely something to fix.

Those who find themselves frequently engaging in negative self-talk tend to be more stressed. This is in large part due to the fact that their reality is altered to create an experience where they don’t have the ability to reach the goals, they’ve set for themselves. This is both due to a lowered ability to see opportunities around them as well as a decreased tendency to capitalize on these opportunities. This means that the heightened perception of stress is due both to mere perception and the changes in behavior that come from them.

Aspire to Inspire

Life has its fair share of joys and miseries. Thereby, at times it is essential to look outside the box and become a beacon hope for others. There may be thousands of disheartened people stuck in the same boat as you. Only if you could get over the self-doubts and begin to inspire others by reflecting how odds can turn into favor, you can influence many people to live a peaceful life, much like Malik himself.

The best routes to combating negative self-talk: replacing it with something better. Take a negative thought and change it to something encouraging that’s also accurate. Repeat until you find yourself needing to do it less and less often. This works well with most bad habits: replacing unhealthy food with healthy food, for example, and it’s a great way to develop a more positive way of thinking about yourself and about life.
