To kick off Season Two of The Thrive Global Podcast with iHeart Radio, Thrive Global founder and CEO Arianna Huffington sat down with CBS This Morning co-host, O Magazine editor-at-large and media icon Gayle King. In a wide-ranging conversation, Huffington and King spoke about everything from King’s social media habits and morning routine to self-acceptance and the possibility of an Oprah presidential run.

King shared many stories, but one of the funniest — and most relatable — was about Spanx.

It started when Huffington mentioned her collapse, years ago, from sleep deprivation and exhaustion. This prompted King to tell the story of her own (very different) collapse:

“So, here I am in my bedroom, putting on the Spanx, and you know, they require a little bit of pulling and tugging, and I was pulling and tugging and fell when I was putting them on. And I kept thinking, if I had fallen and hit my head, and I would’ve been knocked out unconscious, somebody would’ve come into my home, seen me with these Spanx below my ankles, buck naked, thinking, what is the freaky deaky stuff going on here?”

In addition to being every woman’s worst nightmare, the anecdote served as something of a wake-up call for King. “And I’ve never ever forgotten that. I’ve never forgotten how quickly, Arianna, life can change in a second,” she said.
