Good things come to those who wait. As a child, I heard this phrase repeatedly. Unfortunately, I have always been somewhat of an impatient person. What the saying is really referring to is the fact that if we take a step back and let things unfold as they are meant to, without forcing anything, it will happen more naturally. Waiting often brings us the best results, while highlighting our trust and resilience throughout the process.

I have also learned that sometimes, it just boils down to timing. Things can and will happen when the time is right. Dreams and goals remain stagnant when certain things still need to fall into place so there is no use in pushing it. I am well aware that it can be excruciating to wait at times, though.

I find that when I am anticipating a certain outcome, it’s best to keep myself occupied. Some things that I do to stay busy include listening to an audiobook or a good podcast. It might work for you too. By immersing yourself in these activities, you’ll give your mind an opportunity to focus on other topics. You can also take up a hobby which will involve learning new skills and organizing your time for concentration and practice. I also find it helpful to go for a walk or get some exercise, which can give you a fresher, less anxious perspective. Calling or spending time with friends also helps. They can tell you all about what is going on in their lives, breaking your fixation on what is happening in your own.

Playing games or puzzles can also occupy your time and shift your mindset to another type of challenge. You might even start a game-related competition with a friend or loved one. Overall, in these types of situations, we have to work on building our patience. There are a lot of different ways to do so including practicing delayed gratification which builds our tolerance for waiting and setting realistic expectations. Nothing good ever happens overnight. It takes a lot of little steps and hard work to get there.

It can also be useful to work on practicing empathy, particularly if you are frustrated waiting on others to finish something. Remember to be kind to yourself as well. It could be that you are frustrated about not achieving what you want in a quicker manner. Everyone has to practice and try several times before they get what they want. Don’t forget that.

There’s no doubt about it; good things really do come to those who wait. I have seen it repeatedly throughout my life. Keep that in mind the next time that you are waiting for some results to unfold!
