What Being a Mom Means to Me…..

Another person for whom to care
Lessons and stories for us to share

Little fingers and toes, giggles and coos
Onesies and jumpers, their tiny little shoes

The smell of their skin, the warmth of their hair
Sharing experiences, laughter, some heartache and despair

Dance, soccer, baseball and hockey
Juggling the sports and playing car jockey

Vacations, celebrations, birthdays and more
Family trips down to the “Toys R Us” store

Fireworks, little friends and their parents too
Wonderland, the Ex and treks through the zoo

Story-time, playtime, walks through the park
Safe and secure, holding hands in the dark

First loves, family pets, Sunday night roast
Consoling and holding them when they need it the most

Communion, school plays, graduation then Uni

Putting on a strong face and them seeing right through me

The admiration they have in their eyes when they’re just wee
Admiration turning to obstinance as they head through their teens

Instilling values and morals, teaching them to be tough
To be kind to others and to know they are always enough

Beaming with pride as they navigate through life
Whether accomplishing their goals or conquering strife

Parenting with every ounce of my being
Teaching them to never, ever stop dreaming

Encouraging them to believe they can do anything in life
With self confidence, support and a mindset that’s just right

Willing to give anything to eliminate their pain
Keep them warm and safe, protect them from strain

Hoping they know deep down in their heart
They are my world, my life whether we’re together or apart….
