Have you ever been asked what you do for a living?

I’ve been asked loads and loads and loads of times what I do for a living and it’s quite hard for me to kind of put it into words. Sometimes, some people say to me “what do you do?” And if I say to them, oh, I’m a hypnotherapist, sometimes that gives them the wrong impression of what I really, truly honestly do. They usually have a distorted view and say things like: “Do you just like put people to sleep and get them to do stuff?” Nope, I don’t do any of that.

Then if I answer it with: I deal with people that have got stress and anxiety and depression, then they say “oh you’re a counsellor” and I’m not just that either, and this is where I get really stuck on trying to define exactly what I do.

So I gave myself a task – to find out what I did that makes me different…

I actually did find out what makes me different from everyone. The way I do things is different. The way I treat my clients is different. The way I perceive my business is different because it’s mine and it’s the way I look at it. So the way I see people is everybody, whoever comes through my door, whoever calls me, emails me, are all unique. Every single one of them is unique. Every single one of them has a different issue. Yeah, the may say I’ve got anxiety or they might say, oh, I’m depressed. Or the may say I’m stressed. But their perception of their anxiety, their perception of their stress or their depression or whatever it is that they’ve come with would be totally different from the next person and from the previous person because everybody is different.

That’s the way I see it. So therefore when they come to see me, the way their issue is dealt with, will be different as well. So there’s no way I could say, well, what I’m going to do is this, because until I’ve spoken to them, and then discussed things, I’m not going to know what I’m going to do.
This is why, just saying that I’m a hypnotherapist or I’m a psychotherapist or I do NLP or do CBT or I’ll do some BWRT or do Rapid Transformation or whatever, doesn’t actually cut any ice because I am not just one thing. Putting them together to use as a brilliant toolkit is me. Because what I do and what makes this even better in my book is the, that every single client gets a therapy that is unique to them because they all want something different.

If you think about it, if you go to the doctor – you don’t tell them what medication you want, or even tell them what you want them to do. You actually tell them what’s wrong. You say, I’ve got a headache, I’ve got sore stomach or my neck hurts and then you trust them to make the right decision to treat you or to give you something to make me feel better. So that’s the same when people come into me and I say to them, don’t expect to be given this kind of therapy or that kind of therapy until you actually are sitting down and we have a discussion.
That’s what makes me different. That’s what makes me very different. So you can look at loads of different therapists and some of them are quite specific. I do hypnotherapy or I do NLP or I do CBT and that’s it. That’s what they do. And I don’t knock it. I think most are brilliant, but one size doesn’t always fit. And that’s what makes me different because I know we’re all unique and I know we’re all different. So when people come to me for help, then I say to them, we are all unique and different. So let me kind of go into my lovely box of tricks and tools and skills and knowledge. And then let’s pick something that works for you.

So if this is you and you feel that you’re needing help with issues, but you’re not quite sure what to do or what will work then why not give me a call and we can chat?

Remember you are brilliant and unique and one size does not fit all.
