Many years ago I realized that:

Though we may think we can stop thinking. It is clearly not so. Our experience is through the power of Thought. We can however, be aware of our personal thinking and the fact that it will pass… this understanding in and of itself will lessen the roar of the “untamed” thinking.

One of my favorite quotes is “If the only thing people learned was not to be afraid of their experience, that alone would change the world.” Sydney Banks

I have seen this fact play out in numerous clients, students, and group participants. When we don’t fear our thoughts, we lessen the amount of thinking we may engage in that are unproductive such as catastrophic, anxiety producing, negative, analytical, regretful, sad, angry, obsessive etc. Just as a snow globe, if left alone, our mind will settle down and return to it’s default which is peace of mind.
