I am new to the Walmart family and just relocated to Canada from Sweden where broader society has a stronger culture of work life balance. It’s so encouraging to know that Thrive’s mission is to create cultural norms that support our well-being aimed at ending the epidemic of overwork and burnout because society and work culture in North America needs to change. I have evolved how I take care of myself over many years and have openly introduced myself to my new team as a “recovering workaholic,”. I try to share my learnings with colleagues and focus on the small changes we can make to take care of ourselves physically and mentally — and also support each other. It really comes down to giving people permission to change our broader culture. As leaders we all want to push hard and perform at our best out of a sense of accountability and ownership, but we need to realize that in order to do that we also need to take time to recharge.
